  • education of the deaf and the blind

    Beginning in the 1800's the government finally let blind and deaf kids get an education. They did this as a gift of charity in their words

  • special classes

    In the late 1800's the schools finally made a choice of what to do with the the kids who were learning differently than the other kids. The kids that were labeled as slower were put into their own separate classroom.

  • brown vs board of education

    this hearing was about desegregation in the schools. This was good for special education student, because they were also segregated in a way.

  • section 504 of the rehabilitation act

    This was passed so that there were no discrimination in schools. The schools also started recieving federal funds.

  • the education for all handicapped children act of 1975

    This said that any children with disabilities have the right to free and sufficient education. It also made sure that the government had to pay for it.

    special education must have some educational benefit. However there were no test in place in order to figure out the growth.

    After reports came out about how schools were treating the special education kids, it did not look good.45 states failed to ensure that local school authorities adhered to nondiscrimination laws

    This act made sure that these kids were treated better. This act made sure that they were focused more on the education for these kids and that teachers were more qualified.
