    The Start of the War of 1812
    An almost three year war fought between the United States and Great Britain. The war was fought, because of British restrictions on the United States and our want to expand our land. It ended with the Treaty of Ghent.
  • Death of King George III of England

    Death of King George III of England
    King George III died in 1820, which lead him to be the longest reigning king in British history. He was king of Great Britain and Ireland for 41 years, starting in 1760 and ending in 1801 when the two countries were joined together to make the United Kingdom. After the United Kingdom was united, the king continued his reign until he passed 19 years later.

    Battle of San Jacinto * Texas Wins Independence*
    On the 21st of April in 1836, Texans got revenge on Mexico at the Battle of San Jacinto for what happened at the Alamo in march of that year. This battle is important, because Texas won independence from Mexico and it let them go on with the westward expansion of the United States.

    On the 29th of December in 1845, Texas became the 28th state in the United States of America. The transfer of authority from the Republic of Texas did not occur until 1846.

    The Crimean War lasted until February of 1856. This war was fought between an alliance that consisted of Britain, France, Turkey, and Sardinia, and they were all against Russia. This war was fought, because of Russia's demand to exercise protection over the orthodox subjects of the Ottoman sultan

    This four year war was fought between the United States of America, and the Confederate States of America. This war began over the years of tension between the North and South over slavery, state's rights, and the westward expansion. The North ended up winning the war, after the South surrendered in 1865.

    Thomas Edison Develops Electric Light
    At his lab in New Jersey, Thomas Edison built the first electric light bulb. He made it work, by passing electricity through a thin platinum filament in the glass bulb to help the filament to not melt right away. It only stayed on for a few hours at a time.
  • Eiffel Tower Built in Paris

    Eiffel Tower Built in Paris
    Gustave Eiffel started to build the 1,083 foot Eiffel Tower in the year 1887. At the time he finished building the Eiffel Tower, it was the world tallest building. The Eiffel Tower was built to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution.

    Hurricane of Galveston
    This stage four category hurricane occurred on August 27th, 1900. The winds exceeded to 145 mph, and the storm surge was over 15ft. The hurricane destroyed around 3,500 structures, and killed over 8,000 people. The damages cost around $35 million in 1900, but if it were to happen in this day and age it would cost a little over a billion dollars.
