    In 1993, Bill Clinton took office. His campaign had strongly talked about the economic populism.He promised to change the system as a way to benefit those who "work hard and play hard by the rules". He took in 43% of the popular vote. Clinton believed the government could be changed to work more efficiently for Americans. (Kruse and Zelizer 204-206)
  • Oklahoma City Bombing

    Oklahoma City Bombing
    On April 19th, 1995 the Oklahoma City Bombing happened. It was one of the largest terrorist attacks on US soil, killing 168 people, including 19 children, and more than 500 people were injured.This bombing was the worst act of homegrown terrorism in nations history. (Class Notes April 19th)
  • Centennial Olympic Park Bombing

    Centennial Olympic Park Bombing
    The Centennial Olympic Park Bombing was a bombing attack in Atlanta, Georgia during the Summer Olympics.This bombing killed 1 person and injured 111 other people.A green ALICE pack filled with 3 pipe bombs that were filled with smokeless powder were what caused this death.This merits inclusion because it impacted the Summer Olympics, and there were losses of lives.     Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA)
    The Defense of Marriage Act was passed on September 21st, 1996. This was the most significant change of the decade. Congress man Bob Barr declared that same-sex marriage threatened straight marriage and all of society. DOMA allowed states the right not to recognize same sex marriages, and it established legal definition of marriage as heterosexual. The DOMA merits inclusion because it talked about the struggles of LGBTQ+ equality,causing many conflicts and decision making (Kruse and Zelizer 218)
  • Monica Lewinsky Scandal and Impeachment

    Monica Lewinsky Scandal and Impeachment
    Clinton had an affair with 21 year old Monica Lewinsky. Monicas friends were secretly recording their conversations with each other. Clinton was then impeached.He was charged with perjury, and impeached by the house.There was a trial and he was not found guilty. The public did not agree with his impeachment.   • 2000 Presidential Election

    2000 Presidential Election
    This presidential debate occurred on November 7th, 2000.It was between Al Gore and George Bush. It boiled down to single state florid, and there were 537 final votes. This was a very close election. Bush did not win the popular vote.The Supreme Court ruled that some votes should be disqualified. (Class Notes, April 24)
  • 9/11

    9/11
    This tragic event happened on September 9th, 2001. 2 planes crashed into the World Trade Center, and the 3rd plane crashed into the Pentagon located in Virginia. Over 3,000 people died. The group Al Qaeda takes responsibility for it. It is talked about that this attack come out of the blue It was an event that changed the landscape of the world forever. (Class Notes April 24th)

    Hurricane Katrina occurred on August 6th, 2005. It hit New Orleans as a category 4 hurricane. This was a huge natural disaster killing approximately 2,000 people. Due to this, New Orleans lost a lot of its population, and people were relocating. This hurricane effected everything for humans in that area. (Class Notes April 24th)
  • The Iraq War Troop Surge

    The Iraq War Troop Surge
    The Surge was an increase in the number of US military troops. President Bush announced to increase the number of US troops by more than 20,000. This troop goal was to change the focus of the US military. It was known as the "The New Way Forward". This merits inclusion because there was major conflict, major impacts on the Iraq War, and it impacted the military strategy.

    Obama Elected as President
    Barack Obama was elected as as the 44th President of the United States on November 4th, 2008.He was the first African American to be in office.Obama had much planned. He wanted to improve health care and make sure every American could afford it,and wanted to cut taxes for working families as well.Obama wanted to renew America's stature in the world.His choices impacted the world significantly.
