The invasion of Iraq, issued by President George Bush, was a military conflict between the U.S. and coalition forces and Saddam Hussein. The reason for the war was suspicion of a nuclear arsenal Iraq could have been developing. The conflict lasted for 8 years with major battles being won by the U.S. in its first weeks, however, intense guerrilla warfare would cause the conflict to carry on till 2011. In the end, the conflict was ruled as a victory with the capture of Saddam Hussein. -
Known as the worst terrorist attack recorded in European history, members of the terrorist organization Al Qaeda bombed 4 busy commuter routes in Madrid during rush hour, killing 190 people and injuring almost 2,000. The effect of the bombing divided Spain, and blame was being pointed to the separatist group ETA, which sought freedom from Spain. The influence of the bombings caused paranoia within the government and a new party to took office. Ultimately changing the government of Spain.

April 2nd, 2005 is an important date for all followers of Christianity and Catholicism because it marks the death of Pope John Paul II. Cherished and loved by all of his followers, Pope John Paul II was important because of his changes in the Church, recognizing their mistakes over the 20th century and even creating the second Vatican Council. He was the first Polish Pope and the first non-Italian Pope since the 16th century. He also was also loved for bonding people of other faiths together.

With the election of Barack Obama in 2008, many historical achievements took place. For starters, Obama is the first African American president to even hold office and one of three senators in history to hold office. He had won the majority of the popular vote and had more than 350 electoral votes. He had one against Senator John Mccain, who had fought in the Vietnam War in the U.S navy. The stock and housing market crash of 2008 is recorded as one of the biggest crashes in U.S. history with a 777.68-point drop. Starting in 1999, real-estate brokers gave mortgages and loans to people with poor credit scores and savings to buy property. With the increase in buying real estate, the subprime markets began to rise. An immense amount of consumer debt led to home prices decreasing value in real-estate homes, plummeting the market and causing a drastic recession throughout the U.S.

Known as the second-worst nuclear disaster to happen in our world's history, the Fukushima nuclear power plant melted down and release radiation into the atmosphere. Caused by an Earthquake on March 9th, tsunami title waves crashed into the plant, causing numerous malfunctions to cause problems in the plant. The rapid spread of traditions caused almost 50,000 people to flee their homes. The effect damaged the environment and contaminated the food and water supply for tens of thousands of people. -
On Boylston Street in Boston Massachusetts, the city holds its annual race on Patriots Day, where 100's people run a marathon. On this date at 2:49 pm, 2 bombs went off near the finish line killing 3 people and injuring more than 200. This sent the city into shock and locked down the town for a manhunt. Popular events were canceled and major streets were closed. Caused by two American terrorists, the Tsarnaev brothers. One brother was killed in a shootout and the other is serving time in jail. -
Following the mistreatment by authorities resulting in Freddie Gray's death, an African American citizen, violent and chaotic protests ruled the streets of the western district in Baltimore, Maryland. Protestors of African American civil rights activists and other protestors caused the closing of the city. 100's of businesses and other properties were destroyed, costing the city millions of dollars. This event raised awareness of police brutality and the poverty issue happening in Baltimore.

Donald Trump's Meeting with Kim Jong Un happened on the 38th parallel in the demilitarized zone on the border of North and South Korea. Due to the unresolved conflict of the Korean War and the tense situation between the North and the South, President Donald Trump met with the Korean leader to discuss peace terms between the two countries. The importance of this meeting declared Trump the first American to step on North Korean soil and the first to hold in-person peace conferences with Jong Un. -
At the end of December 2019, an outbreak of deadly pneumonia and other respiratory problems overtook the city of Wuhan, China. Though Chinese authorities tried to contain the disease, it spread all over the world like Italy, India, and the U.S. With over 7.5 million confirmed cases around the world 6.9 million people would meet their death to this disease. With little knowledge and poor technological medical equipment to first fight the disease, it wiped out and frighten millions of people.

The matter first developed in 2014, Russian influence on Crimea, which is a small peninsula in Ukraine, caused the invasion and annexation of the territory to Russia. Armed conflict between Ukraine and Russia broke out in 2014, though the Russian Government denied military involvement. In 2015, countries tried to resolve the issue through peace treaties and ceasefires. Everything changed when Russia ultimately invaded Ukraine and alliances and aid on both sides currently foreshadow world war. -
In 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that it was constitutional for an individual's right to their own body, to decide whether or not they want to have an abortion. However, all of that changed when a new court overturned the previous ruling. The ruling declared that the U.S. Constitution cannot protect a person's right to choose an abortion and has now left it up to the state government whether it is legal or not. This decision erupted in mass protests and leaves many people in crisis.
