    A car depot was burglarized. The robbers used Halloween masks and completed the robbery in about 30 mins. They stole about 2.7 million dollars.

    President Truman signs the Organic Act of Guam.
    The act made the island an unincorporated territory of the United States and granted all Guam residents U.S. Citizenship. The act also gave a small amount of autonomy with the creation of legislative, judicial and executive branches of government and a bill of rights.
  • United States -- "Peter Pan"

    United States -- "Peter Pan"
    The Broadway musical "Peter Pan" was broadcast live on NBC on March 7th . The occasion marked the first time a stage musical was performed on television in almost the exact same way it was performed on stage. The live performance featured most of the original Broadway cast, including Peter Pan portrayer Mary Martin, and it aired only a few days after the show's run on Broadway ended.

    United States --- The Mickey Mouse Club
    In October the original Mickey Mouse Club television program made its debut on ABC. The show was billed as a variety show for children and would feature cartoons, educational segments and serials like "The Hardy Boys" and "Spin and Marty." The show also featured child actors as "Mouseketeers" who would perform in musical and dance numbers as well as the other segments.

    The Disneyland resort and theme park, located in Anaheim, California, opened its doors in July . Walt Disney grew his animation company throughout the 1930s and by the early 1950s he had started to plan the construction of a theme park to be built on 160 acres of land near Los Angeles. Construction on the park began in 1954 and by July it was nearly complete.

    Operation "Rolling Thunder" Begins
    Johnson approves Rolling Thunder in February, believing that a program of limited bombing in North Vietnam will deter support for Vietcong. Rolling Thunder continues for three years and eight months, involving 305,380 raids and 634,000 tons of bombs. Results include: 818 pilots killed and hundreds more captured; 182,000 civilians killed in North Vietnam.

    Tet Offensive Launched by Vietcong
    To the Vietnamese, Tet is a culturally important celebration of the Lunar New Year. U.S. planners and troops are unprepared when the North Vietnamese and Vietcong use festivities as cover, surging into Saigon and other key cities. Within days, U.S. forces retake most areas; an intense battle for Hue rages for 26 days. Retaking the area, U.S. troops discover mass graves containing the bodies of thousands of people who had been executed during the Communist occupation during and after Tet.
  • My Lai Massacre

    My Lai Massacre
    Charlie Company, 11th Brigade, is on a "search and destroy" mission in the hamlet of My Lai. Something goes horribly wrong, resulting in violent death for hundreds of unarmed civilians, including women, children, and the elderly. After one and a half years, the officer at My Lai, Lt. William Calley, is brought up on murder charges. News of atrocities at My Lai doesn't reach public media until November 1969.

    On April 13th at about 10:07 pm the second oxygen tank explodes. This causes issues with the other oxygen tanks. The crew contacts CapCom shortly after the incident with the famous line "Houston, we've had a problem."

    Luna 17 and Lunokhod
    The Luna 17 Mission is launched by the USSR, carrying the first successful remote-controlled robotic lunar rover, Lunokhod 1, to the moon. The Soviet Union launches the Luna 17 mission on November 10, 1970. The Luna 17 spacecraft carried a controllable robotic rover named Lunokhod 1 which would become the first successful remote-controlled robotic rover to land and operate on the Moon. It arrived and was deployed on November 17, 1970.

    The War in Vietnam comes to an end at the end of April in 1975 as a series of events leads to the fall of Saigon. During the previous month the North Vietnamese Army began an aggressive campaign against South Vietnam and by the end of April, North Vietnam took Saigon.
