This painting is an example of the deeper meaning and focus on God that art focused on at the time. We can see Susan is in a uncomfortable situation but with her trust in God she can get through it. We can see her facial expression as upset, while the men are shown as very creepy and perverted.
  • rtemisia Gentileschi, Judith Beheading Holofernes, Italian Baroque, 6’6” x 5’4” Museo Capodimonte, Naples

This is an example of the low lit, religious scenes we see during this time in art. The low lighting makes it hard to see some of the painting, but does show light towards the blood and what is being laid on.
  • Artemisia Gentileschi, Judith And Her Maidservant with the Head of Holofernes, Italian Baroque, Oil Painting, 187.2 x 142 cm, Detroit Institute of Art

Again we see the low lighting and along with the religious stories. We how the light comes off of the candle, while we see Judith holding the sword, and her maid holding the head and a bloody cloth.
