  • Nineteenth Amendment To The Constitution ratified giving women the right to vote

    This allowed women to vote, which is important for equality movements.
  • The Communist Party of China is created.

    The Communist Party of China is why China now is so policed, and restricted.
  • The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) is created.

    The USSR is fairly responsible for the Cold War, and was the first communist country.
  • Adolf Hitler leads the Nazi Party in failed coup attempt ( Beer Hall Putsch ) in Germany.

    This is one of the Nazi party's first demonstrations of power. Which was a failure, and that was due to poor planning.
  • Ellis Island closes as an immigration entry point to the US.

    Ellis Island was an important immigration point, and was used by many to come to the U.S.. It was turned into a detention and deportation center.
  • Amelia Earhart flies across the Atlantic Ocean as a passenger, becoming the first woman to do so successfully.

    This was a stepping stone for Amelia's future achievement of flying across the world. It was also a great way of proving women can be in a plane.
  • Saint Valentine Day Massacre

    This was a major turf war between Al Capone's gang and the North Side gang. During this seven members and associates were murdered.
  • The Wall Street Crash of 1929 started the period of The Great Depression in the United States

    This was a big crash of the stock market, and it directly caused The Great Depression. Which affected many people, and caused America to be quite poor for a while.
  • U.S. National Anthem becomes The Star Spangled Banner.

    On this day President Herbert Hoover signed a law that made Star Spangled Banner our national anthem. This is important as it gives us a sense of unity and pride.
  • Amelia Earhart completes the first non-stop solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean by a woman

    On this day Amelia Earhart completed her first non-stop solo flight across the Atlantic. This is important because, as it helps prove that women are just as capable as men are to do things.
  • Prohibition is Passed

    Prohibition is the twenty first amendment. Which outlaws alcohol, and was a way to try and combat social issues like domestic violence.
  • The Black Sunday Dust Storm

    On this day the worst storm of the Dust Bowl happened. During this if you looked outside it was darker than night, and it got to a point where people couldn't even see their own hand being held in front of their face.
  • FDR signs the Neutrality Act into law, preventing the U.S. exportation of war related items to nations at war.

    This prevented the U.S. from exporting items related to war to countries at war. FDR signed this as a way to try and stay out of WWII or any future wars.
  • The Spanish Civil War begins

    This was a war between The Republicans and The Nationalists. Which took place in Spain, and it was caused by mostly the Catholic Church.
  • San Francisco’s iconic Golden Gate Bridge officially opens

    The Golden Gate Bridge was built by Joseph B. Strauss. It is important as it is a great example of american ability. Currently it has 112,000 people who go over it daily.
  • German troops invade Austria

    On this day the Germans invaded Austria. This is one of the major starters for WWII.
  • Germany begins its persecution of Jews

    This is also one of the major reasons for WWII. Many Jewish folks were brutally murdered during the times that followed this.
  • Dictator Francisco Franco conquers Madrid ending the Spanish Civil War

    This led to Franco becoming a ruthless dictator of Spain. Many lives were lost during this conflict.
  • Nazi Germany attacks Poland on September 1 and France, Australia and the United Kingdom declare war on Germany.

    This is a key moment for the start of WWII. On the opposing side of Germany it was a way to keep a balance of power.
  • Franklin D. Roosevelt wins the election and becomes the United States' first third-term president.

    Generally presidents are only allowed two terms at max, but this is a special case where that did not happen. This was mainly caused by WWII.
  • The Vietnam War Starts

    The Vietnam war started because of unprovoked attacks against the U.S. side. This war was fought between North and South Vietnam.
  • Rosa Parks Takes a Seat

    On this day a woman of color named Rosa Parks took a seat at the front of the bus which was at that time only for white people. She was arrested for this, and it sparked major outrage.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1957

    This was the first major civil rights legislation to be passed after reconstruction. It protected everyone's right to vote no matter what.
  • Bay of Pigs

    This was an attack that failed orchestrated by the CIA, that was against Cuban leader Fidel Castro. It was supposed to get Castro out of power but failed.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    The Cuban Missile Crisis was when it was found that Soviets had positioned nuclear missiles in Cuba. This ended in a U.S. naval blockade of Cuba.
  • March on Washington

    This was a protest that both white and black people attended. It was happening against a senate meeting, and somewhere around 100,000 people joined in. The main motive behind it was freedom and jobs.
  • President Kennedy Assassinated

    On this day President JFK was assassinated during a parade. The believed culprit of this was Lee Harvey Oswald. This was a major event at the time, as there hadn't been an instance like this in a hot minute. Soon after now President Lyndon B. Johnson took his role as president.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1964

    This was an act that was passed to insure the rights of all Americans no matter skin color. Originally this act was created by JFK, but was brought to be voted on by Lyndon B Johnson.
  • Martin Luther King Opposes War

    On this day Martin Luther King declared he opposed the Vietnam war. This reigns importance as he was the most influential person at that time.
  • Fair Housing Act of 1968

    This prevented discrimination for housing no matter skin color, sex, national origin, or religion. It was brought forth after a famous civil rights leader Malcolm X was assassinated. Also it was the last Act to be passed during the Civil Rights era.
