    Mikhail Gorbachev was born March 2, 1931. He was born in Privolnoye, a village in Russia, which is where he grew up as a kid. His parents were two Ukrainian peasants and his father was an operator of a combine harvester. As he got a little earlier, Gorbachev helped out his family especially right after his father was wounded in the army. (Commire).

    In 1941Japan attacked Pearl Harbor by bombing it. The reason for the attack was mainly triggered by United States president Roosevelt. He had set up different laws than Japan was obviously okay with and he seemed to interfere with some of their plans. This unpredictable bombing took place leaving most of the Navy troops in shock (enkivillage.com).

    In the year 1950, Gorbachev graduated high school and soon after went off to college. He went to one of the best schools in the Soviet Union, Moscow University as he was a very good student who liked learning. He was there for five years before graduating with a law degree (biography.com)

    On this date he became a communist member while still in college. This was important because it was his first big step in his political future. From here he continued to rise in the communist party especially three years from here when he graduates law school (Commire).

The man who shot him, Lee Harvey Oswald was later questioned in the street by a police officer who he then shot as well trying to escape.     In 1978, Gorbachev moved to Moscow as secretary of Central Committee of Soviet Communist Party. He was very young compared to the others with this title, the average age was above 70 where he was about 47. After Andropov became the party leader in 1982 Gorbachev became his assistant (Commire).

    Around the time that Gorbachev gained power he also introduced a policy called glasnost. This would ultimately help the Soviet Unions people have a new way of thinking and it would give more openness to public discussion. This also helped lead the people to move to democracy which is what he wanted as well as to give the people a bigger voice in their community (coldwar.org).

    This meeting which took place in Reykjavik, Iceland, was extremely important to the accomplishments Gorbachev made. Going into the meeting he had hoped to make as much progress as possible to expel nuclear use as there had just been a huge nuclear explosion accident in the Soviet Union before. What both men ended up settling on was going ten years with the disablement of all nuclear threats and use in their countries.This large step led to a chain reaction of steps after the meeting (Harkins).

    This was a policy that went along with glasnost in helping to make the Soviet Union a democracy. People got more say in their government and it gave people a vote in certain elections. Perestroika helps lead the Union towards abolishment. Also, this policy helped westernize the USSR as it was introduced (Harkins 43).

    It was Christmas day that he officially resigned from office. The Soviet Union was falling apart and countries that used to be apart of it were declaring themselves independent. It was shortly after the August when he had gotten captured by a group of conservatives of the Communist Party (Commire).

    On September 11, 2001 two hijacked airplanes hit the twin towers in New York. It was found to be a terrorist attack that ended up killing thousands and forced both towers to crumble to the ground.     After being out of the spotlight for years, Mikhail Gorbachev made a return when he introduced the Union of Social-Democrats. This was long after his presidency ended but he wanted to bring together a number of Russia's social-democratic parties which is exactly what he did. After his position in this movement died out he created his own party in Russia, the Independent Democratic Party (Commire).

Within seconds, cheering on participants turned into people risking their lives just to find the people they drove cross country with in some cases. After that day they found the man responsible for this devastating situation that people still are suffering from and was put on death row as the youngest person there in the United States (history.com)
