Climb of Summit Failed
Greg Mortenson attempts to climb the peak of K2, Mortenson was planning on climbing to the top of the mountain and dedicating his adventure to his sister. One of the climbers got sick from pulmonary edema and because of that, Mortenson was unsuccesfull with his climb. -

Struggle Up the Mountain
Mortenson continues his attemp up K2. The cold weather and the high atlitudes are putting Mortenson's life at a dangerous risk. He becomes confused and finds his way off the trail of the mountain. The sun starts to fade away so Mortenson finds a spot where he can sleep comfortably for the night and continue his journey in the morning. -
Mortenson Finds Korphe
Mortenson, still incoherent at the time, makes his way into the village of Korphe, which is a small subsistence farming village in northeastern Pakistan. The people of Korphe great Mortenson with love and compassion and agreed to let Mortenson stay in their village with them -
No Schools
As Mortenson starts to figure the village out, he asked the leader of Korphe to take him to a local school. Stunned, Mortenson finds out there is not school. He cant beleive that the kids of Korphe arent getting an education that they need to have. They do their schoolwork in the dirt and there is only one teacher that coems around the village every once in a while. Mortenson promises the village that he will return to Korphe and build schools for them -
The Search for Money
After getting back to America, Mortenson works on his school project instantly. He starts off my wriitng over five hundred fifty letters to the wealthy and well known people of the country. In the letter, he asks them to donate to his awareness of building schools over in Korphe. In hopes of receiving multiple letters back with great lumps of money, he only received one letter with a hundred dollar check. Then he received a twelve thousand dollar check from a man named Jean Hoerni. -
Rounding Up the Materials
Soon after Mortenson makes his way back to America, he quickly travels back to Pakistan to buy everything he needs to build his school. When he gets to Pakistan, he goes to a man named Abdul who knows everything about buying materials in his area. He knows how to bargain with the other villiagers to get the things they need at the right price. Afteer that he meeats a man named Changazi who lets Mortenson leave his materials with him while he helps raise money for the bridge that Korphe wants. -
The Bridge
After having all the materials ready to be put to use, Mortenson returns to Korphe with a very welcoming atomsphere. The Korphe people were more than happy to have him there and they were very appeciative. Only a few months later, the bridge is complete and the villagers are overjoyed. He sees that the villagers carrying lanterns across the bridge which indicates that the people are happy with the bridge and Mortensons dedication to it. -
Tention Arises
While building the school, Mortenson because fustrated with his men because they are not working accurately or fast enough like he wants them too. Haji Ali, the village cheif, sees the tention that is arising, and takes Mortenston aside to have a calming chat with him in the mountaints. He explains that the mountains in the area have been here for a long time and you can't tell them what to do. He tells Mortenson that he does not need to be rushed when building the schools. -
The Tea Party Begins
Mortenson sits town annd drinks tea with the Korphe people. While sitting down, the head cheif, Haji Ali, say, " If you want to thrive in Baltistan, you must respect our ways. The first time you share tea, with a Balti, you are a stranger. The second time you take tea, you are an honored guest. The third time you share a cup of tea, you become family, and for our family, we are prepared to do anything, even die." This is when Mortenson is really welcomed into the Korphe village. -
9/11 Attack on U.S
While Mortenson was in Pakistan, the United States were attecked by hijacked airplanes in the New York area. Mortenson starts to question and see a different side of Pakistan. He stays in touch with his wife and his kids to make sure they are doing okay, luckily they are. Mortenson is all the news crew wants to talk too and the police department hinder his saty at Pakistan and start to question the real reason why Mortenson is in the middle east -
Start Changing Afghanistan
When Mortenson gets done with the building of all his school in Pakistan, he takes a short trip over to Afghanistan to start the renovation of nerw schools in that area. This is when Mortenson really gets a kick start in his world-wide name of buliding schools in poor or less fortunate areas. Mortenson's name get really big in the middle east and every country watns him to build schools to better the children of their villages -
Mortensons Achievments
Mortenson and the CAI (Central Asia Institute) have build over eighty school in Pakistans and the surrounding countries. Mortenson was a huge impact on how the middle east raises their children today. He had a goal and he achieved it better than expected. Even though he went through a lot of hardships, he pulled through and made everything possible. If you set your mind to something, you can most definitely achieve it. Mortenson was someone to look up to then, and still is today.
