  • Rough Rider at San Juan Hill

    Rough Riders at San Juan Hill was nickname for an American Army unit during the Spanish American War, under commandment of Theodore Roosevelt.
  • Presidency

    In 1901 Theodore Roosevelt became the president after the assassination of McKinley, Roosevelt worked to expand America's role. He created numerous programs to provide relief to the unemployed and farmers while seeking economic recovery with the National Recovery Administration and other programs. He also instituted major regulatory reforms related to finance, communications, and labor, and presided over the end of Prohibition.
  • Northern Securities Case

    In 1902 the northern securities company vs. the United States ruled to dissolve monopolies, giving more power to the Sherman Antitrust Act.
  • National Reclamation Act

    In 1902 the act set in the dramatic transformation of reclaiming land for productive agricultural use, irrigation and hydroelectric development.
  • Coal strike

    In 1902 coal miners left work in the United Mine Workers strike. Workers were protesting low wages and dangerous working conditions, and were up against wealthy mine owners opposed to change.
  • Elkins Act

    In 1903 the Elkins Act prohibited railroad companies from giving rebates to businesses that ship large quantities of goods and giving power to those businesses to artificially lower shipping prices.
  • First full term

    In 1904, Teddy won his first full term as president, he implemented progressive reforms, such as trust busting, he aimed for breaking up monopolies, advocated rights and regulation of food and drugs, conservation efforts.
  • Yosemite under Federal Control

    Muir and Roosevelt met and went camping high above Yosemite Valley. Muir called for Roosevelt's help to save the trees and preserve the natural beauty of the region. The Sierra Club fought for Yosemite Valley to go from being under state to federal control, and in 1906 the senate approved and allowed the valley to become part of Yosemite National Park.
  • The Meat Inspection Act

    In 1906 the meat inspection act prevented meat products that are unsanitary from being sold and to ensure that meat and meat products are slaughtered and processed under clean conditions.
  • Passage of Pure Food And Drug Act

    In 1906 the pure food and drug act prohibited the sale of adulterated food and drugs in interstate commerce and laid a foundation for the nation's first consumer protection agency, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
  • Leaves residency

    In 1909 Teddy leaves residency and when on a safari in Africa from 1909 to 1910, the expedition collected around 11,400 animal specimens. The trip involved political and social interactions with local leaders and dignitaries. Roosevelt made a book called African Game Trails.
  • Bull-Moose Party

    In 1912, Progressive Republican third-party was founded by Theodore Roosevelt, after he lost the presidential nomination of the Republican Party to his former protege turned rival, William Howard Taft.
