College isn't for everyone.
Ted began going to Darthmouth College in 1921. He graduated in 1925 with a bachelor's degree. In 1925 he went to Oxford to pursue a doctorate in english. He never completed his studies there, Ted dropped out a year later in 1926. -
Cartoon Days
Throughout his time in college, Theodore made cartoons for Darthmouth's newspaper the Jack-o-Lantern. He published cartoons until he was kicked off for breaking school rules. He contined to submit cartoons using other names. He did this from the time he started until he gradutated in 1925. -
Love and Marriage
Ted's first wife was Helen Palmer. The met in 1926 where she convinved Ted to drop out of Oxford and pursure being a cartoonist. Together they live in the lower west side of New York. They were married for fourty years before Helen comminted suicide. -
What's you name?
Throughout his career Theodore Geisel has used many different names. In the year of 1927 he used the name Dr. Theophrastus Seuss. In 1928. he shortened that to Dr. Seuss. In 1968 a book was published under the name of Theo. LeSieg. -
"Quick Henry, The Flit!"
Sometime in the year 1928 Theodore began the 17 year campaign for the Standard Oil Company of New Jersey. Geisel's cartoon ads usually involved a group of people being threatened by a whimsical looking mosquitoe. -
The First Of Many
Afert being rejedcted serveral times, "And To Think I Saw It On Mulberry Street" was finally published. This was Dr.Seuss' first book. It was published by Vangaurd Press. -

Theodore served in the United States Military from 1943- 1946. -

Beiginning in April of 1943 and continuing unitil January of 1994 Ted published over 400 cartoons for the liberal New York news paper PM. -
Caldecotts
Three of his books McElligots Pool,Bartholomew and the Oobleck , and If I Ran the Zoo,won Caldecott Honor Medals. The Caldecott is awarded every year to the author of the most distinguished American picture book for children. -
The Cat in The Hat
The Cat in The Hat is Dr. Seuss's most succesful and well-known book. Teh mischevious feline gets himself and others in trouble. Just like the Grinch from "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" The cat is based on Ted himself. -

"How the Grinch Stole Christmas" is one of Dr. Seuss's most famous books. The old grouchy grinch that lives in a cave on the mountain is actually based upon himself. Today, the book has been made into multiple movies. -
A Bet Turned Best Seller
After Ted published The Cat In The Hat his publisher challenged that he could not right a book using less words. He accepted this challenge and wrote Green Eggs and Ham, only using 50 words. This book is the fourth best-selling childrens book of all time. -
Loving Again
On a beautiful summer day, Theodore Geisel married his second wife Audrey Stone.This marrige occured less than a year after his first wife comminted suicide. When he married Audrey, Ted got two step-children. -
Inspiration from Africa.
During a trip to Africa Dr. Seuss recieved inspiration to write of his The Lorax. Ted was looking out the window of his hotel when he saw men cutting down trees. This action is the main conflict in the book. The exact date of publication is unknown, but the year was 1971. -
A peaceful way to say goodbye.
At aporximetaly 10:00pm on the 24th of September Ted Geisel died in his sleep. His death didn't occur as a shock to many, for he had been suffering from cancer for many years.
