    In 1954 Ho Chi Minhand the French decided to sign the Geneva Accrds. This document diviced Vietnam along the 17th parallel until 1956 when the next election would occur and the country which could reunify the country.

    The "land reforms" was declared by Ho Chi Minh in which thousands of vietnamese people were tortured and executed causing thousands to flee to South Vietnam.

    Ho Chi Minh Trail
    The North Vietnamese army unit Group 559 is created to form a trail from North Vietnam to Vietcong. The route was made to transport supplies along Vietnam/Cambodia border. (Not the exact date)
  • U.S. Troops

    U.S. Troops
    400 American troups arrive in South Vietnam along with American helicopters. These troops will fly and maintain the helicopters.
  • Ap Bac

    Ap Bac
    Guerilla forces and the 514th Vietcong attack Soth Vietnam's army's 7th division. The Vietcong stand their ground against U.S. forces and nearly 400 South Vietnamese are killed during the battle. Also three Americans are killed.

  • Tet Offensive

    Tet Offensive
    Vietcong troops attack more than 100 cities and towns in South Vietnam. 37,000 Vietcong troops are klled and many more are wounded. During these battles 2,500 Americans are killed causing support back home to drop even more.
  • Operation Pegasus

    Operation Pegasus
    Khe Sanh was the largest battle to this date in the war. Lasting 77 days over 1,600 North Vietnamese are killed but it is estimated that the number is larger due to the aoumt of bombing done by American troops.
  • Attack on American Bases

    Attack on American Bases
    North Vietnamese troops use heavy artillery attacks on American bases across South Vietnam, as well as several towns. 1,140 American are killed.
  • Attack into Cambodia

    Attack into Cambodia
    South Vietnamese troops attack forces in Cambodia moving towards Vietcong. The battle last more the 60 days. Vast numbers of thousands of weapons and ammunition are captured. Most of the Vietcong are able to escape but there is more than 10,000 casualties.

    South Vietnamese troops enter Laos to attack enemy bases, however they were attacked by northern troops. During the ime span of a month over 9,000 south vietnamese are killed or wounded. Also hundred of U.S. helicopters and planes are destroyed.
  • Operation Linebacker Two

    Operation Linebacker Two
    President Nixon orders a 12 day bombing operation against North Vietnam known as Operation Linebacker Two. Over 20,000 tons of bombs are dropped during this period. North Vietnam reports 1,300 to 1,600 dead.

    The third largest city in South Vietnam Hue falls to North Vietnam.
  • War Ends

    War Ends
    Two U.S. marines are killed at Sagion Aiirport by a rocket attack. These are the last Americans to die in the Vietnam War. U.S. troops leave the U.S. embassy and jus a few short hours later North Vietnamese troops enter Sagion ending the war.
