    When Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese on December 7, 1941, the USA entered WW2. After WW2 Europe was in ruins and had to be rebuilt, but the USA intact because no battle s had taken place on the American mainland

The country became one of the world's two superpowers both economically and politically, but these superpowers also started a Cold War wich lasted for decades. The USA unfluented the world culturally. Rock and Roll music and teenage idols like Jeams Dean and Elvis Presley created a new youth culture

Recession in the steel industry created problems in the industrialized areas of the Midwest. During this decade there was a large inlux of immigrants from Asia, in the aftermath of the US defeat in Vietnam.

    The country was in a Cold War with the Soviet Union and supported anti- communist movements around the globe. When the Berlin wall came down in 1989 the Cold War had to come to an end, and leaving the USA as the only superpower. The 80s will also be remembered as the decade of MTV and the music video. and pop icons like Madonna and Micheal Jackson

    Operation desert storm was a short war in the middle east in 1991, the aim of the war was to protect Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, wich were major suppliers of oil to the USA. Gradually throughout the decade the USA did better economically and immegration increased. The most significant changes technologically were the internet and the PC. At the end of the decade, reality TV became a new popular genre.

    On new years eve 1999 most of the western world was worried. Eventsnon september 11, 2001, four planes were hijacked, two crashed into the twin towers, one hit the pentagon, and the fourth plane missed. that day will always be remembered as the "day that changed the world" and the beginning og of the global war and terror. The 2008 election of Barack Obama, brought hope to many Americans, after millions of people struggled financially in the US.
