  • Prohibition

    Prohibition
The sale of alcoholic beverages was banned in America. However, the government did not have the resources to enforce this, and there were many clubs called "speakeasys" where alcohol was sold and distributed. It was clear through out the 20's that the prohibition act was not an effective one, and the prohibition was lifted on December 5th, 1933.

    The Roaring 20's

After the first World War, the youth of the 20's had little trust in the older generation. This brought out an era that wrecked massive change thorughout America. Women wore revealing clothes, smoked in public and cut their hair short, men stayed out all night dancing, and would sit on flagpoles for as long as possible just because they could. The Jazz Age saw the rise of the Hollywood film industry where the celebrity became more important than the movie. This mind set can still be seen today.
  • Wall Street Crashes

    Wall Street Crashes
Through out the course of the 20's, It was believed that America had a great abundance of Wealth. This appeared to be false, it was guessed that an American family needed around $2000 yearly to live, and almost 60% of these families made less than this. Due to the fact that people didn't have any money, no one was buying product, which meant there was no reason to employ factory workers. This chain event were the beginning of the Great Depression.

    The Great Depression

Beginning with the Stock Market Crash of 1929, the Great Depression lasted 10 years and ended with the beginning of the Second World War. There were many efforts to bring about prosperity made mainly by Franklin D. Roosevelt, who reigned throughout the majority fo the Depression.
  • The Economy Act

    The Economy Act
This docked the pay of each person who worked for the government of military by 15%, governmental spending was also cut by 25%. While this saved America almost 1 million dollars, most of the money went towards funding Franklin D Roosevelts "New Deal" Many of the laws passed by Roosevelt were met with ease due to his popularity when he first became president, but many were later deemed unconstitutional later down the road.
  • The Beer Act

    The Beer Act
Clearly the prohibition of alcohol was doing nothing for the economy, and so Roosevelt passed the Beer-Wine act, which made the distribution of relatively low level alcohols legal. Government revenue was increased through the taxing of these alcohols, and this also raised the spirits (excuse the pun) of the American people who were no longer criminalized for wanting a drink. This was a step towards completely eliminating prohibition, which actually helped to boost America's economy.
  • Agricultural Adjustment Act

    Agricultural Adjustment Act
Encouraged farmers to grow less crops, therefore raising the prices of agricultural products. This benefitted the farmers, but not the consumers, due to high prices.
  • AAA of 1938

    AAA of 1938
After the first AAA in 1933 was deemed unconstitutional, it was rewritten to still benefit the agricultural industry through legal means. This made price support mandatory for many goods that were plant based. Due to increasing technology, the diversity in farms grew, so that there was a higher variety of crops which lead to an agricultural boom.
  • The Start of WWII

    The Start of WWII
Even though America did not join the war until the tail end of 1941, it's beginning greatly affected the country, which was in the depression. While America was not apart of the war, it kept it's stance clear, with the Allies. They did provide product for Europe, which helped to end the depression that was ravaging the country.
