    This date is when Alexander Thayer interviewed Joseph Mahler about his portrait of Beethoven. Thayer first came across the painting during a research visit for his Beethoven biography. Thayer was interested in learning about why it was painted. He felt that the painting was the most interesting and captivating of the portraits he had encountered. He interviewed Mahler on this date but the original painting was made by Mahler in 1804.

    Charlie Lucas was born October 12,1951 in Birmingham, Alabama and raised in Montgomery. He was one of the 14 siblings in his family. He began his artistic career after a truck accident in 1984. His creations gave him the name of "Tin Man". He used what he called "found objects" to create his artistic figures. He used scraps of different metals and welded them. His basket weaving skills and his own imagination created his artwork.This was his own personal language he made to express himself.

    As an Associate Professor of dance and theatre, Dyann taught and directed dance and theatre productions for the Department of Theatre at Auburn University. She wrote and directed her last play at Auburn which was "Strange Fruit".

    This is a dance piece choreographed by Sara Sanford. She is a resident choreographer for the Alabama Dance Theatre. This is a modern dance with a contemporary style. It was premiered at the Davis Theatre for the Performing Arts in Montgomery on this day. The dancers in the piece are high school students from Montgomery except for the one male performer, Grant Dettling, who is a professional dancer of the Dayton Ballet in Ohio.
