Summary:Michael Bornsteins house got raided and the Germans took everything
CD: It was a negative event: The Bornsteins lost almost all their money except for the money they hid in the ground.
How it relates to the theme: The Bornstein family still had some money and they weren't caught for hiding it either. -
Bloody Monday
Summary: Bombs came down and the Germans started a public execution.
CD: It was a negative event because most of the houses were destroyed including theirs.
How it relates to the theme. The Bornsteins family had survived the bombing but other families weren't so lucky. -
The Bribery
Summary Michael's dad bribed a German officer named Schimitt saving the town.
CD:It was a positive event. His dad had saved the whole town and they were together.
How it relates to the theme: In other towns Jews were put through really harsh labor but because of the bribery, the people of Zarki had it easier then others. -
Another Massacre
Summary:The germans started killing all the Jews to "lighten" their load
CD: It was a negative event but the Germans didn't choose Michael and his family.
How it relates to the theme: The bornstein family was lucky and wasn't chosen. -
First Concentration Camp
Summary:Got moved to their first concentration camp called Pionki.
CD: it was a negative event but they didn't get killed.
How it relates to the theme: They didn't get moved to anywhere harsh like Auschwitz right away and they had it easy at Poinki. -
A Change
Summary:Gallows were being added in the concentration camp and they started to hang Jews.
CD: It was a negative event but they weren't chosen to die.
How it relates to the theme: The family was still together and none of the died. -
Auschwitz
Summary: Michael and his family were sent to Auschwitz.
CD: It was a negative event. Poinki was an easier place to live in
How it relates to the theme: Some families were killed in Poinki but they were moved to Auschwitz -
Escape
Summary:Michael and his Grandmother had escaped and hoped to find Michael's mother. His father and brother were already dead.
CD: It was a positive event. Michael was one of the 52 children under eight that survived.
How it relates to the theme statement: Michael survived out of the hundreds of thousands of children sent to Auschwitz. -
