    Queen Elizabeth l started the East India Company, English became the language they used when trading. The British people were the rulers of the city Calcutta and they spoke english. Native Indian people thought if they learned English a new world would open up for them and they could travel to English speaking countries.

    In the 17th century the slave trade began in west africa. Britain would load up ships with guns and manufactured goods and send them to west africa. The goods were exchanged for african slaves. The slaves then got transported to caribbean where they were sold at auctions.

    "The first fleet" The English people sent criminals and not free people to Australia as a punishment for their crimes, there were about 780 people on the ship that arrived in Port Jackson.
