    The Soviet Union sends the first probe to the moon. This was a huge milestone in the space race.

  • Vostok 1

    The Soviet Union sent the first human in orbit. His name was Yuri Gagarin

  • First woman in orbit

    Valentina Vladimirovna Tereshkova was sent by the Soviet Union into space. In 1963 she became the first woman in space.

  • Probe on Venus

    The Soviet Union takes it one step further and puts a probe on VENUS. The Mission is known as Venera 3.

  • Apollo 11

    The USA and NASA send the first two men on the moon. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin become the first men to step on the moon. This is considered the highlight of the Space Race. President Kennedy's dream of sending a man on the moon was completed with this mission called Apollo 11
