Space exploration

  • Period: to

    Space technology

  • First Optical Telescope

    First Optical Telescope
Hans Lippershey created a telecope that only had 3x magnification
he used glass disks that he had sanded down to create the magnification
I believe that the first telescope was the most important creation for space exploration and produced the idea of being able to fly up in the stars
The problem was the telescope did not have enough magnifications due to the lack of technology at the time to create the lenses
  • First Observation of Space

    First Observation of Space
Galileo discoverd jupiter also has moons aswell as the differentiations in density on our moon (the craters) he did this by looking at jupiter and observing the little "stars" that circled it and came in and out of view which were the moons the only problem was the telescope he was using did not have a high magnification only giving him a very mininmal resolution I believe that his discovery of jupiters moons was a very large contribution to space exploration by proving we werent the center
  • Rocket Eqaution

    Rocket Eqaution
based on nuetons third law of motion which descirbes the motion of vehicles that follow the basic principle of a rocket (thrust) It was important to space exploration because it proved we could theoretically propellourselfs to space using the formula
  • First Telecopic Picture of Another World

First Telecopic Picture of Another World
John William Draper takes the first image of the moon through a telescope It was important to space exploration because it proved the moon was not perfect and had crators the problem with the picture was the obvious lack of definition
  • Doppler affect

    Doppler affect
It is named after the Austrian physicist Christian Doppler, who proposed it in 1842 in Prague. It is commonly heard when a vehicle sounding a siren or horn approaches, passes, and recedes from an observer. it was very important to our understanding of space because it showed that all planets and solar sytems were moving away from a point
  • First artificial satelliteFirst signals from space

First artificial satelliteFirst signals from space
was about the size of a beach ball (58 cm.or 22.8 inches in diameter), weighed only 83.6 kg. or 183.9 pounds, and took about 98 minutes to orbit the Earth on its elliptical path. That launch ushered in new political, military, technological, and scientific developments. While the Sputnik launch was a single event, it marked the start of the space age and the U.S.-U.S.S.R space race. the only problem was it was on a crash course to the moon
  • First ICBM

    First ICBM
the name of the mision was R-7 Semyorka and SS-6 Sapwood
    both were successful
this was a important contribution to the technology used to get to space because this rocket could reach past the karmen line to (enter space) the only problem was it could not go to far after that point and was a short range missile
  • First plants and animals to return alive from Earth orbit

First plants and animals to return alive from Earth orbit
Belka and Strelka, a couple of stray mutts impressed into the Soviet space program, become the first living creatures to return alive from an orbital flight. This is a very important moment because it showed that mammles could enter space and survive. the only problem is the amount of o2 h2o we consume and the amount of waste we produce
  • First human pilot in space

    First human pilot in space
He was the first human to journey into outer space, when his Vostok spacecraft completed an orbit of the Earth on 12 April 1961. this was a important point in history of space exploration because we sent our first astronaut to space. everything went to plan and he landed succsesfully
  • First reusable crewed spacecraft

    First reusable crewed spacecraft
The space shuttle was initially used to deploy satellites in orbit and to carry scientific experiments such as Spacelab.this event was important due to its trait of being re-usable it made it a lot moore cost effiecient. nothing went wrong with the shuttle but it was decomissiond due to new improved designs
  • First soft landing on another world the Moon

First soft landing on another world the Moon
The United States Apollo 11 was the first manned mission to land on the Moon.this was a historical moment for us and had a vast importance of expanding our knowledge and gathering samples of another celestial body. everything went great witht he flight but a later flight apollo 13 crashed in the air above the launch site
  • First X-ray orbital observatory

    First X-ray orbital observatory
Chandra is sensitive to X-ray sources 100 times fainter than any previous X-ray telescope enabled by the high angular resolution of its mirrors. this is very important because it allows us to see rays of light that were never before able to be seen.nothing has gone wrong with the telescope yet
  • First space station

    First space station
The first space station was Salyut 1, which was launched by the Soviet Union on April 19, 1971. it is a very important step in history because it proved we could live in our own orbit. there was multiple problems surrounding the station including troubles docking and technical problems which delayed the launch date
    (originally the 10th)
  • Closest flyby of the Sun

    Closest flyby of the Sun
43.432 million kilometers was the closest point to the sun (NASA & DFVLR) i belive this was a important point in space exploration because we tested our limits of our crafts the harshest way possible.nothing went wrong but at the closest point the tempeture on the outside of the space craft reached 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • First photos and soil samples from the surface of Mars

First photos and soil samples from the surface of Mars
The rover analyzed Martian soil for the first time, and found a complex chemistry within the Martian soil. Water and sulfur and chlorine-containing substances, this was another very very impoortant step in our history of space exploration because it showed that planets like mars may have had water and may still
  • Saturn flyby

    Saturn flyby
(closest approach 124,000 kilometers), close encounter of Titan and encounters with a dozen others. i believe this was importan to our exploration of space because we colected data from a far neighbor of ours. there were no outstanding porblems with the flight
  • First photograph of the whole Solar System

First photograph of the whole Solar System
The image was acquired at a distance of approximately 40.11 AU from Earth and approximately 32° above the ecliptic plane
  • First soft landing on titan

    First soft landing on titan
The surface of Saturn's huge moon Titan has the consistency of soft, wet sand with a fragile crust on top
  • Kepler exoplanet telescope

    Kepler exoplanet telescope
Kepler Mission is launched, first space telescope designated to search for Earth-like exoplanets
  • First food grown and eaten in space

First food grown and eaten in space
The first food grown and harvested in space—a crop of red lettuce—
grown for 15 months with a system called Veg-01, which uses red, blue, and green LED lights to grow plants in a small space.
