    The National Aeronautics and Space Administration- NASA- is created by the United States. NASA is the new space headquarters and replaces the National Advisory Committee on Aeronautics- NACA. The NASA program was created for more research on space, and is also able to control mission and all launches to space.

    The Soviet Union sends the Luna IX into space, and it became the first spacecraft to gently land on the Moon. 2 months later, in April, the Soviet Union send the Luna X which becomes the first satellite to orbit the moon.
  • Apollo 8

    Apollo 8
    Apollo 8 was the first controlled spacecraft to actually orbit the moon! It was a group that consisted of three men: Frank Borman, James Lovell, and William Anders. The mission took three days and had already made 10 orbits around the moon in 20 hours. On Christmas Eve, the members of the group read the beginning 10 verses of Genesis while broadcasting on television!
  • JFK!

    Three men are sent to explore the moon. Neil Armstrong, Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, and
    Michael Collins is these three men. Unfortunately, only two out of the three men walked on the moon. Armstrong and Aldrin were the first men to walk on the Moon. Their other member Michael Collins orbits around the Moon alone. This achievement practically ended the space race, and also accomplished JFK's goal!
