    Sputnik 1 is a man made satellite and it was the first satellite in space. It was launch in Kazakhstan. This was important because it helped the U.S.S.R. with the war, and after that happened NASA was created.

    It was the first animal in space. The dog's name was Laika. It was important because it let the humans know that humans could go into space.

    The first US satellite successfully launchd was the Explorer. This wasimportant because now we are able to see other countries that we may be at war at.

    NASA was founded by the government but president Dwight D. Eisenhower is the actual founder of NASA. This ws important because it lead to discovering the planets in the solar system.

    The first man to orbit the earth was Yuri Gagarin and he was from Russia. This was important because it showed that humans could survive in space.

    The first space walk was done by Alexei Leonov, it lasted 20 minutes. This was important because it prepared the U.S. for our first space walk shortly after.
  • First US Space Walk

    The first US Space Walk was done by Ed White while onboard Gemini 4. The walk lasted 23 minutes. This walk was important because it showed that the US was catching up to the Soviet Union in the Space Race.

    The Gemini 7 went into space and conducted 20 experiments during it's mission. This was important because they evaluated lightweight pressure suits and evaluated spacecraft re-entry capability.
  • Apollo 1

    Apollo 1 was suposed to launch on febuary 21, 1967 at cape Kennedy. But it failed to launch due to a practice session on January 27, 1967. The rocket went up and came straight back down to the ground and everyone inside was killed. This was important because NASA learned the technuqe of launching a rocket successfully.

    Apollo 8 launched into space and it's mission was to study the moon. This was important because they were studying how to land man on the moon. They were progressing with their research on how to land on the moon.

    The first man on the moon was Neil Armstrong with Apollo 11. This was important because no one has ever been on the moon before.

    The Apollo 11 crew went up into space and were conducting experiments. In their experiments they were colecting and gathering samples of lunar surface materials. Apollo 11 launched from cape Kennedy on July 16, 1969. This was important because when they were up there they also placed a TV transmitter and without that we wouldn't be able to watch TV.

    The first US man to orbit the earth was John Glenn. This was important because it made the US catch up to Russia in the space race.
