The Sinking of the RMS Titanic

    The Titanic

The Titanic is VERY significant because there were so many unfortunate events! The ships in that time didn't have many safety laws, and Titanic's passengers were victims due to the careless freedom in those maritime laws! There were horrible coincidences, and the engineers were all living in hubris... Until that horrible incident when everything started to get serious. Laws became way more stricter and people became immune to the idea that ships could be unsinkable!
  • The Titanic's Voyage

    The Titanic's Voyage
The Titanic was going to have a simple and relaxing journey. The Titanic's Route was to go to:
The outward route was to be Southampton, England – Cherbourg, France – Queenstown, Ireland – New York, USA. The return route was going to be New York – Plymouth, England – Cherbourg – Southampton.
  • Lifeboats!

    Lifeboats!
While the Titanic was sinking, passengers did not realise that they were in grave danger! The people who were intelligent enough to realise that they should follow the instructions came out! When most people were on the deck, the musicians started playing hymns to calm the passengers. The musicians all died. Women and children first! Because of their excessive self pride, there were not enough lifeboats for everyone!

Iceberg, Right Ahead! But Where's the Binoculars?
This is significant because if Fleet had seen the iceberg earlier, they would've had more time to steer the ship, unfortunately, he didn't. The reason he didn't see the iceberg was because he didn't have a binocular. They didn't have the key to the binocular room and that is why Fleet could only use his eyes to keep a watch. This is also one of the many tragedies that led to the sinking of the ship.
  • Rescue Ship 'Carpathia'

    Rescue Ship 'Carpathia'
Carpathia was heading for the Mediterranean Sea when Captain Arthur Rostron heard the distress signal. As soon as he heard the Titanic's distress signal, he turned the ship around! He was known as 'Electric Spark' because he was very quick to make decisions! The passengers and crew were preparing blankets, clothes and hot chocolate for the survivors! Some passengers gave up their cabins for the survivors! If the Carpathia hadn't heard the message, those 706 people wouldn't have been saved!
  • The 'Mystery Ship' Californian

    The 'Mystery Ship' Californian
When Phillips was sending out distress signals, they found that the Carpathia was the closest ship to them, though the Carpathia wouldn't be able to make it in time before the Titanic sank. We are now finding out that the Californian could've saved the passengers and crew as they were only 20 miles away! The tragedy lies here, because the wireless operator on the Californian ended his duty at 00.00 but if he had stayed a little longer, he would've gotten the distress signal!

    The Sinking but No Rehearsal!
At 2:15 A.M, two and a half hours after it hit the iceberg, the Titanic started to sink very quickly, the bow plunged into the icy waters and then the Titanic broke into two! Since Captain Smith cancelled the practice, the crew was unrehearsed and they had a lot of trouble putting the passengers in the lifeboats! Nobody knows why Captain Smith cancelled the practice, but historians are still trying to find out. Now, after the incident, the rehearsal is absolutely mandatory.
