    Satchel Paige was a star in the Negro Leagues, he was 6'3 and a right-handed pitcher. He moved from team to team in search of a hefty paycheck. Eventually, he was signed to the Kansas City Monarchs on the B team due to an injury. He made his American League debut when it was announced that he had signed with Cleveland Indians.

    During the 20's is when sports really sparked in interest in people. Boxing, baseball, basketball and football being the most common but ice hockey, tennis, golf, and swimming were also well liked. :)

Baseball not only became popular because of Babe but also because of the construction of stadiums and the broadcasting on radios and television. :)

    The Olympics were held for the first time since WW1 in 1920. The directors of the Olympics had doves to be released as a symbol of peace. The Olympic oath was also taken by a competitor on behalf of all athletes competing.

    Football wasn't at all like it is today during the 20's. There were many small town NFL teams, that failed to succeed because there were not enough fans to financially support the team. They would play games on bike tracks under the floodlights. :/

    Basketball has changed so much over the years,It used to be legal for a player to pick up his or her dribble and then keep dribbling. it was illegal for a player to shoot the ball if they had already dribbled. Possession of a ball that went out of bounds was given to the team that got it first. Lots of early courts were enclosed in a wire mesh cage to protect the crowd from players going after such loose balls, and to protect players from obsessive fans.

    Nat Holman was a very influential basketball player and coach. He was the best all-around player of the '20s. He was signed to the Celtics from 1921-28. His team won the championship in the 1926/27 and 1927/28 season.
  • Gertrude Ederle

    Gertrude Ederle
    Gertrude held 29 national and world amateur swimming records. In 1922 she beat 7 previous records in one day. At the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris, she was a member of the U.S. team that won a gold medal in the 4 × 100-meter freestyle relay. She also got bronze medals in the 100-meter and 400-meter freestyle events.

    Rodeo started after the Civil War when groups of cowboys would compete and see who has better roping and riding skills. Later that became a public event. After WW1 the Madison Square Garden Rodeo became very popular as well as the London Rodeo at Wembley Stadium.

    Babe Ruth was a very famous baseball player in the 1920s. He made his MLB debut on July 11, 1914. He won 7 World Series and 3 of which were in the '20s. In 1923 he was the AL MVP.
  • Red Grange

    Red Grange
    Red was a football player and broadcaster who was an incredible halfback, known for amazing long runs that made him well known. He played football during the 1923–25 seasons and was selected as an All-American halfback each season. He became a national idol in 1924 when he turned in one of the most sensational single-day performances by an athlete in sports history. Against a highly rated Michigan team, Grange ran for touchdowns up to 95 yards in the first quarter of play.
  • Helen Wills

    Helen Wills
    Helen was a very famous tennis player during the 1920s. She won 180 games without losing a single match and won 14/19 major Woman's Singles Championships that weren't passed until 1970.
