French and Indian War 1754-1763
The French and Indian war, was a war between Great Britain and France. This war was caused by ongoing tension in the North as result of French and Britain's imperial officials trying to extend each country's spheres. The war made a step in American Revolution with the ending result of a treaty being made in Paris in 1763. -
Albany Plan 1754
The Albany Plan was with a goal to create a unified government for the 13 colonies. This plan was made by Benjamin Franklin but with a long fought battle of trying to get the colonies to agree they ended up rejecting the offer. But it was a runner up in the creation of the Articles of Confederation and the constitution. -
Proclamation of 1763
The Proclamation of 1763 was made by King George the III. It was a boundary made in the Appalachian Mountains to prevent Anglo-American colonists from settling on French owned land. This helped control private citizens and colonial government from buying native land and property. -
Sugar Act 1764
The Sugar Act was passed to help prevent the illegal smuggling and trade of sugar and molasses. This helped provide increased revenue to help fund the British Empire. -
Stamp Act 1765
The Stamp Act was an Act created by Great Britain to have a direct tax on the British colonies in America with all printed goods with a stamp. This caused an uproar in American colonies which caused one of the leading reasons to the American Revolution. -
Quartering Act 1765
The Quartering Act was an Act that made home owners give up there property to soldiers for the use of barracks. This had the same reasoning as the Stamp Act people were seeing this as a way of being taxed for no reason so it caused an uproar. -
Boston Massacre 1770
The Boston Massacre was an altercation between British soldiers and a mob of angry protesters. The British soldiers open fired on the protesters and they did end up killing several people in the crossfire. This was classified as the leading cause of the Revolutionary war. -
Tea Act 1773
This Act was made to make it possible to ship tea directly to a certain area without landing it in England and have it commissioned to agents who would then have the right to sell the tea into colonies. This made it much easier for sellers to sell their tea to who they wanted to. -
Boston Tea Party 1773
The Boston Tea Party was a protest with American colonists very angry at Britain for enforcing "Taxation without Representation" So American colonists dumped "342 chests" of tea by the British East India company the total cost of the dumped tea is estimated to be around "1million" USD. This was the first major defense against British rule over the colonists. -
Intolerable Acts 1774
This Act was passed by the British government to punish the Massachusetts colonists for there defiance in the Boston Tea Party. This was eventually a push for the start of the Revolutionary War. -
1st Continental Congress 1774
At the 1st Continental Congress this was the major step the United States needed for complete independence. This meeting made it so the United States is longer under British control. -
Battles of Lexington and Concord 1775
This battle was the first battle of the American Revolutionary war. This was a battle that showed that Americans can stand up to red coats. -
Capture of Fort Ticonderoga 1775
This occurred during the American Revolutionary War. When a small force of Green Mountain Boys captured a small British garrison's fort in the Mountains. This secured a strategic passage way to North Canada. -
2nd Continental Congress 1775
The 2nd Continental Congress established a proper working order of government. This was another major step towards the American Revolution. -
Battle of Bunker Hill 1775
The Americans were defeated at the Battle of Bunker Hill but this showed that they could fight against the British Army once more. Which caused many more colonists to join the war. -
Common Sense by Thomas Paine 1776
Thomas Paine made two really good arguments in the common sense book (number 1) Independence from England and (number 2) The creation of a Democratic Republic. He became the main support for American Independence. -
Evacuation of Boston 1776
This day was the outcome of George Washington's successful placements of cannons and defenses that made British soldiers evacuate from Boston. -
Declaration of independence 1776
This document was written by five men and the document states that all men are created equal and that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights. This made it clear that men should have certain privileges such as liberty and equality. -
Battle of Brandywine 1777
This battle was fought between the American continental army under General George Washington's command and the British army under General Sir William Howe's command. The American's were defeated by Britain again but this left the Revolutionary Army intact. -
Siege of Yorktown Sep 28, 1781
The Siege of Yorktown was when the Americans entrapped a Major British Army and forced them to surrender. This Siege ended military operations in the American Revolution.
