Overall Premise
This book is about a made up charcter named Roman who goes into the army during WW2 to be a tank driver. During the book Roman travels althrought out Europe leading his tank into battle. Also Roman needs to make tough decision on weather to do what he his told by the commander or keep him and his team out of harms way. I chose to read this book because I read Chris Lynch's seris about the Vietnam war, and I thought those books were good so I decide to see if his WW2 books were good. -
Event 1 Ball Game
Roman the main charcter is playing his last baseball game before he goes to the army to work with the tanks. At his last baseball it introduces what roman likes and what the main reason for him going into the army. At the end of the baseball game him and some of the other characters that are going to fight in WW2 get anounced. After they get announced they go home and leave the next day in the morning. I think this event was important because it introduces the character.s -
War games Event 2
Roman the main character has justed finished his basic tank training camp and is all ready to go to war. He gets his first tank team and is then sent over to France with his team to help push the axis powers back to Germany. As they get there they're ambushed by the axis. As they were ambushed multiple other tank units were destroied but there unit was still intacted after the battle. I think this event was important because it shows how Roman react while being out for the first time. -
Hannah Event 3
Roman recieves his first letter from his fiance Hannah. In the letter that Hannah wrote to Roman it says that Hannah is proud of Roman for him going out and joining the military but Hannah said she would rather have him be back home playing baseball. Roman wrote back that he would be back soon because the war is coming to an end, and the only reason that he was there is to protect his country. I think this part is important is because he is still staying in contact with his family. -
Africa Event 4
Roman and his crew get sent to Africa to try to stop Italy from getting supplies into there country from boats. I think this part is important because it is completly changing the setting from France to Africa. -
Crash Event 5
Well Roman is in Africa he goes out because an enemy plane has crashed and he wants to get information from the bad people. He executes the two alive people because they tried to kill him. I think this part is important because is shows that Roman will not hazitate to kill anyone. -
Back to France Event 6
Roman and his crew go back to france they had back to france so that they can help push the axis powers back to Germany. I think this part is important because this is another big setting change. -
Battle Event 7
Roman and his crew got stuck in a battle and there tank had mis fired and blew up the engein. So there tank is unable to move and the only thing that they have to fight with is there pistol. They were lucky that another tank group came up and saved them. I think this part was important because it is a major event that happens in the book. -
Free Time Event 8
The war in France starts winding down and roman and his crew get to leave for a week to vist there families. Everone on the tank team sees there families. When they come back everyone shares stories about what they did when they were gone. I think this part is important because everyone gets to calm down for a little bit and have a good time with there families. -
They Both Fight Event 9
Hannah sends Roman his second letter. Hannah tells Roman that she has decided to fight in the army to just like Roman. She becomes an air traffic controller for the WAAC (Woman's Army Air Corps). Roman sends a letter back that says he his happy for her also he says he his happy that she will not be doing anything dangerous. I think this part is important because it shows that Roman is teaching to do the right thing. -
Back Again Event 10
Roman and his team are told that they can go back home if they want or stay and continue fighting. Roman decides to stay and fight. Roman ends up getting a tickt so that he can go to Berlin and help out there. Roman talks to his crew to see if any of them wants to go to berlin with him, but they all want to go home to there families. I think this part was important because it shows that Roman would rather help people than go back to his family. -
Reflection
Overall I thought this book was really good at making it seem that Roman was a real character with a life. If some is looking for a book that is about a WW2 solider this should be the book that they should choose. If this book was made into a movie it would be a really good movie with lots of action. I also think that Chris Lynch did a great job and there would be nothing he should change. Overall I thought that this book was really good and well writen.
