A tall soldier went down to wash his shirt. Then he came running back acting very happy. He had heard from a person that they were moving.

There were a few people talking about if they would run if they got in a fight. One guy said that he would probably run if a lot of people started to run. But if only a few people ran, he would stay.

The men got up early and headed of down in to the forest. They had walked so far that they were starting to count their miles. The tall soldier was complaining about how sore his feet were and how short the rations were.

They got into a fight, and then the lieutenant got shot in the hand. He started to swear like crazy. Then the captain got a handkerchief and wrapped the wound.

The fight is know over. Henry, the youth, is getting up and putting his hat on. Everybody is up and talking about how good they did. Then someone said here they come again.

This time during the fight, Henry did not do so good. At one point, he was so scared that he felt like he had no legs. There was a person who threw down his gun and ran, and then more did the same. Then Henry did the same thing. He went running down to the end of the field.

Now that he has ran from the battle, he is starting to get a lot of different emotions. He is scared that they might find out that he ran. He also felt guilty.

The next day he met up with a group of people, then he relized that he was walking with the wounded. He was worried that they would find out that he was not wound. He also found his friend, the tall soldier, that was wounded. After a while, his friend went crazy and died.

He found himself in the middle of a bunch of people. So Hennry grabbed one of them and and keep saying, "why? why?". But the other person kep sayin," let me go. let me go." And then the person Hennry grabed hit him with his gun and gave him a cut on the head.

A person found Hennry and took him back to his regiment. He was afraid that they would find out that he had run away, so he told his friend that he got hit by a bullet. His friend cared for him.

They were marching, and then they got into a battle. But when everybody stopped shooting, Henry did not. Finally, they had to yell at him to stop.

Henry and his friend Wilson went to go get some water. When they did this, they heard a general and another officer say they fight like a lot of mule drivers. That made them mad!

They got into a fight. Then the color sargent got killd. So, Hennry saved the flag. Then, he became the flag bearer.

They all thought that they were doing good. Then a seargent came and yelled at them. He said they did not go far enough.

There was another big fight. Henry kep the flag near the front. Then the fight was over. They had won.
