    Adolfo Suárez, UCD (julio de 1976-febrero de 1981) Nació en Ávila en 1932 y se formó en Derecho. Fue figura clave para el proceso de transición democrática. Tras la aprobación de la ley de asociaciones políticas, todavía durante el régimen franquista, promovió la asociación política Unión Democrática del Pueblo Español (UDPE)
  • Leopoldo Calvo Sotelo

    Leopoldo Calvo Sotelo
    Leopoldo Calvo Sotelo, UCD (February 1981-December 1982) He was born in Madrid in 1926 and trained as an Engineer of Roads, Canals and Ports. His was the shortest term in the history of democracy. He participated in the creation of the Union of Democratic Center (UCD)
  • Felipe González

    Felipe González
    Felipe González, PSOE (December 1982 - May 1996) He was born in Seville in 1942 and graduated in Law 20 years later. From a young age he was part of the Executive Committee of the Spanish Socialist Workers Party (PSOE), and became its general secretary in 1974. In 1978 he was elected vice president of the Socialist International.
  • José María Aznar

    José María Aznar
    José María Aznar, PP (May 1996 - April 2004) He was born in Madrid in 1953 and trained in law. Very young, he joined Alianza Popular (AP), party of which he was secretary general in 1979. He was a deputy for the province of Ávila (1982), president of the party in Castilla y León (1985), deputy secretary general and member of the Committee Executive (1986).
  • José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero

    José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero
    José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, PSOE (April 2004-December 2011) He was born in Valladolid, in 1960, and trained in Law. He joined the PSOE in 1979, and since 1982 he held positions of responsibility, such as the Secretariat of the Socialist Youth of León and the General Secretariat of the Leonese Socialist Federation. In addition, he was deputy in the Congress since 1986, and from 1996, spokesman of the PSOE in the Public Administration Committee of the Lower House.
  • Mariano Rajoy

     Mariano Rajoy
    Mariano Rajoy, PP (December 2011-June 2018) He was born in Santiago de Compostela (A Coruña) on March 27, 1955. He graduated in Law. Before being president of the Government, he was Minister of Public Administration (1996-1999) and Minister of Education and Culture (1999-2000). Upon reaching the Government, obtaining absolute majority, its economic policy focused on readjustments aimed at solving the economic crisis.
  • Pedro Sánchez

    Pedro Sánchez
    Pedro Sánchez, PSOE (June 2018) Born in Madrid in 1972, and is trained in Economic and Business Sciences. In addition to teaching at the Camilo José Cela University, he has worked as an advisor in the European Parliament (1998) and as a member of the Cabinet of the High Representative of the United Nations in Bosnia during the Kosovo War (1999).
