Michal tells Katurian that he did in fact carry out what he heard in stories and bring it to real life. Thus, killing multiple kids.

Michal wants to continue being tortured so that Katurian can continue writing good stories. So he tells the cops he did murder those people they thought he did.

Katurian kills his brother Michal to assure a peaceful death for him. However, the cops kill Katurian with a bullet in his head. Not so peaceful.
