    With the backing of a mysterious Sith Lord, Sidious, claiming to hold power in the Senate, Trade Federation leader Nute Gunray commands a trade blockade over Naboo in hopes of forcing a treaty to make their occupation legal.

    First Podrace
    Anakin Skywalker is in the midst of a podrace through the canyons and valleys of Tattoine, the only human who can do it. He’s only nine, but he’s nearly winning, until Sebulba flashes his vents and causes him to crash. Unharmed like always, he prepares to rebuild the pod for a future race, as ordered by his master, Watto. His mother Shmi doesn’t like that he podraces, but can’t convince Watto away from the money-making opportunity it brings.

    The Spacer
    Anakin is spending time with some friends in Mos Espa, his home city, when a spacer offers to buy a second round of their favorite drinks for them and tell them some stories. Ankin dreams of flying across the galaxy and visiting every star, and maybe even fly with Jedi Knights.

    Jedi Sent for Negotiations
    On Coruscant, Chancellor Valorum of the Republic sends Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi to negotiate a treaty with the Trade Federation to put an end to their blockade. Upon arrival, they are quickly betrayed as their ship is destroyed and Gunray sends droids to attempt an assassination. They escape through the ship’s hangar to the surface of Naboo via stowing away on a droid transport. Gunray tells the Sith Lord they were killed and is ordered to commence ground invasion.

    Finding Jar-Jar and the Gungan City

    Finding Jar-Jar and the Gungan City
    Snaking through the swamps, the Jedi avoid droid transport tanks and STAPs as best as they can, but Qui-Gon goes out of his way to save a local Gungan about to be run over by one. This Gungan says he owes him a “life debt” for saving him and shows them to the secret city Otuh Gunga, an underwater paradise and only place on Naboo unnoticed by the Trade Federation. They are detained and taken to it’s leader Boss Nass, as Jar-Jar is banned from the city.

    Through the Planet's Core to Thneed
    Boss Nass assigns Jar-Jar to be the Jedi’s navigator through the planet’s core (an underwater ocean), as it’s the fastest and least conspicuous route to Thneed, the Naboo capitol city. This is basically a death sentence from Boss Nass, as the core is dangerous, and he doesn’t like Jar-Jar or the Naboo or friends of the Naboo. Still, they make it with many close calls and irreparable damage to the ship, surfacing on the shores of Thneed.

    Anakin Trades for Droids
    Watto sends Anakin out into the desert to trade some parts for service droids. He takes a droid he’s been constructing to help his mother, C-3P0, to help him choose. On the way back, he encounters an injured Tusken Raider, said to be evil, but he helps him anyways. His tribe comes in the night to reclaim him, but they leave Anakin alone. Anakin thinks himself brave. He wonders how brave he would be if his mother, the most important person to him, were taken away.

    Rescuing the Queen

    Rescuing the Queen
    The Jedi and Jar-Jar sneak through the city to the droid convoy escorting the Queen, her advisors, Governer Sio Bibble, Captain Panaka, and his guard to a makeshift detention center. They dismantle the droids and Panaka leads them to a nearby hangar where they commandeer the Queen’s Nubian cruiser to escape. Bibble stays behind, to maintain order.

    Ship Forced to Tattoine
    Trade Federation ships bombard the Nubian with cannon fire. Astromech R2D2 bypasses the failing engine and allows them to escape, though their hyperdrive was damaged and they cannot make it to Coruscant for the Queen to testify. The nearby planet Tattoine is the most convenient to escape to, with now Trade Federation presence on account of the Hutt Cartel.

    Sidious Sends Maul
    Failing to have killed the Jedi and now having a larger problem at hand, Gunray holds a conference with Sidious where he explains the Jedi have escaped with the Queen. Sidious curses their foolishness and sends his apprentice and assassin, Lord Maul, to track them down.

    Meeting Anakin

    Meeting Anakin
    Landing outside of the city of Mos Espa, the Jedi as well as one of the Queen’s assistants, Padme, and Jar-Jar move into the city, searching for a place to acquire repairs. They stumble into Watto’s shop, where Qui-Gon finds the necessary parts and Padme and Jar-Jar meet Anakin. Anakin quickly falls for Padme. Unfortunately, Watto won’t accept Republic credits, and they end up in a bind. A sandstorm prevents them from returning to their shuttle, so Anakin offers them to shelter in his home.

    Anakin's Home
    They enter his home and meet Shmi, who talks with Qui-Gon as Anakin shows Padme C-3P0. Later they gather for dinner, where Anakin surmises Qui-Gon is a Jedi. Later that night, Qui-Gon tests Anakin’s blood for midi-chlorians, indicators of the ability to become a Jedi, and finds them higher than any known Jedi. He believes Anakin to be a prophesied Chosen One.

    Anakin's Podracer and Future
    The next day, Anakin shows off a secret project of his, a podracer made to be the fastest ever built. He plans to use it for the yearly Boonta Eve race, with a large cash pool; enough to pay for their parts and more. With some work, he gets it functioning. Qui-Gon talks with Shmi about the opportunities for the boy, and how he should be trained as a Jedi. He also learns there was no father, further convincing him of the Prophecy. Shmi gives him her blessing to train the boy.

    Qui-Gon's Gamble
    Qui-Gon tells Watto he wishes to sponsor Anakin in the Boonta race so he can get the parts, wagering up the Queen’s Nubian to make up for the entry fee. He pretends Anakin’s project pod is one he owns and “offers” it for Anakin to use, since his last crashed and couldn’t be fixed yet. Watto accepts, as he would receive the prize money either way. Qui-Gon bets on a die for Anakins freedom as well, and uses his Jedi powers to manipulate the results in his favor.

    The Boonta Eve Race
    Everyone is ready to spectate on the sidelines as Anakin readies himself. Sebulba, the favorite to win, sabotages Anakin’s pod to misfire and fail to start at the opening lights. Now in last, Anakin fixes his pod and quickly moves up the ranks, expertly avoiding tight canyons, crashes, and Tusken raider gunfire, until it’s just him and Sebulba. Sebulba attempts to cheat and destroy Anakin’s pod, but Anakin is too skilled and causes Sebulba to crash instead, winning the race.

    Leaving Tattoine
    That night they celebrate Anakin’s victory and repair their ship’s hyperdrive. Shmi and Qui-Gon have a talk with Anakin about how he’s been freed and iif he wishes to leave to become a Jedi. He does, and packs and prepares to go, but struggles to let go of his mother. She persuades him it’s alright and he leaves. On their exit, right before boarding the Nubian, Maul attacks Qui-Gon and Anakin. Qui-Gon barely holds him off and escapes into atmosphere, and then on course to Coruscant.

    In Hyperspace to Coruscant
    It’s a long wait to get from Tattoine to Coruscant. During this time, one of the Queen’s handmaidens intercepts a message from Sio Bibble describing a dire situation where the Trade Federation is starving out the people of Naboo, and the death toll is catastrophic. Despite being instructed to not respond, she does to comfort him, allowing Maul to intercept it and learn they intend to return to Naboo once they leave Coruscant. Anakin misses his mother, and is comforted by Padme.

    Arriving on Coruscant
    They arrive on the planet and meet Senator of Naboo Palpatine, The Jedi go to the Jedi Temple to report the sighting of the Sith Lord and Anakin’s potential, while Anakin stays with the Queen’s handmaidens as she testifies with Palpatine. Palpatine convinces her to order a no-confidence vote in the Chancellor to speed up the process, which is successful and results in the election of Palpatine as Chancellor.

    Leaving Coruscant
    Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan take Anakin before the Jedi Council to be tested and they discover his incredible Jedi abilities. However, he is too old and attached to the world, as they sense fear of losing his mother. Grandmaster Yoda and Master Windu site this as a way towards the Sith path. Despite their success, legislation still takes too long and the Queen decides to return to her people, despite being counseled against it. Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Jar-Jar return with her.

    By hologram transmission, Lord Sidious relays the information gathered by his apprentice to Gunray, instructing him to force the Queen to sign their treaty once she arrives. He also sends Maul to Naboo, as he will be “of more use there.”

    Padme Reveals Herself and Allies with the Gungans
    Upon arriving, Trade Federation presence is everywhere. The Queen instructs Jar-Jar to find the Gungans in their city, but it’s completely abandoned. He tells them when the situation is bad, they retreat to a sacred place, and takes them there. At that place, they attempt to ally the Gungans to the Naboo’s cause in a war effort, but have trouble. Padme reveals herself as the true Queen, the “Queen” until now a stand-in to protect her. She delivers a compelling speech and gains their allyship.

    Beginnings of the Battle
    Jar-Jar stays with his people and is made General as Padme, the Jedi, and Anakin move into Thneed to find Gunray. They rescue a number of captive pilots from a hangar to launch their airforce on their way to Padme’s palace, where Gunray is. Anakin is instructed to hide in the cockpit of an empty ship. Before they can leave, Maul arrives, forcing the Jedi to engage him to allow the Queen and her fighting force to move on the palace. The droid forces approach the Gungan holdout in the plains.

    Battle of Naboo: Anakin's Perspective
    Instructed to remain in the ship, Anakin accidentally engages autopilot, moving his ship into orbit where the ariel battle is taking place. His podracing skills translate greatly to flying, and he disables a number of ships before entering the hangar of their main droid command ship, where his engines stall. Barely regaining control of his ship, he destroys the command ship from the interior and escapes before its explosion would have consumed him.

    Battle of Naboo: Padme's Perspective
    Moving up to her palace, Padme, with Panaka, her handmaidens, and a few dozen soldiers scale the walls with grappling hooks, entering through a high window. Gunray expected their advance and intercepted them inside the council room with droids. Padme’s stand-in distracts him while she gathers her hidden pistols and turns the situation around on Gunray, now negotiating a new treaty where the Federation will retreat.

    Battle of Naboo: Jar-Jar's Perspective
    Thousands and thousands of droids approach, with hundreds of tanks. The Gungans set up their ray shields and EMP weaponry. The battle is fierce, but eventually the droid’s numbers overwhelm the Gungans. Right when they would be captured, the droids short circuit and shut down, as the explosion of the droid control ship Anakin destroyed is visible in the sky.

    Battle of Naboo: Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan's Perspective
    They battle through the main generator of the city. Maul is more than a match for the two Jedi, but is pressed back by their teamwork. Eventually, Obi-Wan is separated from Qui-Gon and Maul behind a heat shield. Now isolated, Maul impales Qui-Gon and leaves him to die on the floor. Enraged, Obi-Wan loses control and it nearly costs his life, but on the brink of defeat, he calms himself and cuts Maul in half. With his dying breath, Qui-Gon instructs Obi-Wan to train Anakin.

    The battle is won and the Federation has withdrawn. Qui-Gon is cremated on Naboo surrounded by his friends and those who respected him, such as Obi-Wan, Anakin, Padme, Jar-Jar, Boss Nass, and Palpatine. Obi-Wan promises Anakin here he will be made a Jedi. Yoda and Windu discuss the troubling reappearance of the Sith, and consider whether Maul was the apprentice or the master.

    Despite the unorthodox circumstances, the Jedi Council honors Qui-Gon's wish, graduating Obi-Wan from Padawan to Knight and allowing him to take Anakin as his learner.

    Celebration Parade
    All of Naboo gathers in Thneed for a celebration of their liberation. The Gungans and Naboo mend their relationship, with Padme presenting a token of their everlasting friendship to Boss Nass. The day is crowned "Freedom Day," to be celebrated for millennia to come.
