    The land that is now North Carolina started to form about 1,700 million years ago. There has been change ever since.

    The continents started to break apart but they merged back together whenever the land came back together many mountain ranges were made. They started to get eroded by wind and water.
  • North Carolina on the east coast

    Once Norch Carolina found its place on the east coast global climate began to warm and cool many times. It melted and cooled the polar icecaps causing the seas to rise and fall this made it cover and uncover the Coastal Plains.

    Shallow sea covered most of the Coastal Plain then left again about 5.3 million years ago.

    The first single cell life forms first appeared in earth about 3,800 million years ago. It took 2,000 million years fot the first cells with nuclei which is simple bacteria to develop it then took another 500 million years for multi celled organisms to evolve.
  • Climate stabilized

    The climate stabilized as glaciers retreated making it possible for agriculture.
