    Very well known documentry photographer during the Great depression, capturing amazing images of people during the horrible times.
  • Warren G. Harding’s “Return to Normalcy”

    29th President of the United States. “Return to Normalcy” was what Harding wanted, he wanted to return to the way of life before World War 1.
  • Glenn Curtiss

    Glenn Curtiss was an inventor and started building light weight plane engines. In 1907 he join an group headed by Alexander Ghram Bell called the Ariel Experiment Association or AEA.
  • Franklin D. Roosevelt

    32nd President of the United States. He closed almost every bank during the "bank holiday" and created many programs meant to bring America out of the Depression.
  • Marcus Garvey

    Born in Jamaica and moved to New York in 1916. Created a "Negro World" newspaper, an international shipping company called black star lines and the Negro Factories Coroporation.
  • Alvin York

    One of the most decorated soldiers in World War 1. He also wrote the book "The Diary of Alvin York". During the Battle of Argonne Forest he captured about 132 German Prisoners.
  • Langston Hughes

    Langston Hughes was an American poet, novelist, and playwright. He was one of the innovators of the then-new art form of jazz poetry.
  • Charles Lindbergh

    Inventor, author and explorer . On May 20th Lindberg took flight at St. Louis, Missouri and flew over the Atlanic Ocean and landed in Paris, France.
  • The Great Migration

    The Great mIgration refers to the relocation of more than 6 million African Americans from the south to the North, West and Mid-West.
  • Sussex pledge

    A promise Germany gave at the end of WW1 in response to US demands. According the Pledge Germany said they would alter their naval and sub. policies so that they would not sink non-military ships.
  • John J. Pershing

    U.S. Army General- fought in the Spanish-American and Phillipine-American Wars. President and first captian of the West Point class1886.
  • Battle of Argonne Forest

    American and French Soldiers commanded by both John Pershing and Henri Gouraud were to attack the Germnas in a three-pronged attack. It was a success until American soldiers needed reinforcements causing the battle to stop temporarely. Americans losts 117,000 men and the French lost 70,000 men.
  • Treaty of Versallies

    Negotiated by the allied powers, had 15 parts and 440 articles. This document offically eneded World War 1.
  • Jazz

    The Jazz Age was about breaking old rules. Jazz never followed traditional music and was improvised. Classical was played as it was written but Jazz was more laid back and was changed constantly.
  • Harlem Renaissance

    The African American literaary and art movement in the uptown neighbourhood of Harlem around the mid to late 1920's.
  • The Great Depression

    Started when 16 million shares were traded on "Black Tuesday" and then a panic shook Wall Street. Many of the shares came up worthless and investors who had bought stocks with borrowed money from banks were taken out completely.
  • Dust Bowl

    The Dust Bowl is a series of severe dust storms that swept through southern America. The winds carried farmers crops away and covered the lands in Texas and Oklahomaforcing people to leave the country and head to the cities.
  • The New Deal

    Programs created by President FDR to try and bring America out of the Great Depression. Many of them were a complete failure and others we still use today.
