    Kobe (age 7) wanted to join the baseball team, but he did not know much about baseball, anyone on the team, nor how to play well. In Erikson's fourth stage, Industry vs. Inferiority This crisis is when an individual questions his or her skills, talents, and abilities. He or she seeks to win approval from others, and his or her peers become a source for self-esteem.
  • Kobe's Marriage

    Kobe's Marriage
    Kobe (27) did not want to get married because he was afraid of commitment. However, after he met Laura, he was in love and wanted to marry her and have a family. On the other hand, Laura did not feel the same. In Erikson's 6th stage, Intimacy vs. Isolation. In this stage, an individual must face the crisis of either exploring relationships as long-term events, or as makeshifts. On the other hand, an individual can choose to avoid relationships completely.
  • Kobe's Old Age

    Kobe's Old Age
    Kobe (age 60) is widowed, lives in a nursing home, and is visited by his grown children every now and then. He contemplates on whether or not he could have lived differently. In Erikson's final stage, ego integrity vs. despair. In this stage, and individual faces the crisis of whether or not he or she lived a successful life, or if he or she failed to accomplish his or her goals. He or she reflects on failures, life achievements, and how they could have lived differently.
