    Born in Mobile, AL he was the third of eight children. When his father took him to hear a speech given by Jackie Robinson, Hank committed himself to playing baseball. He was the son to Herbert and Estella (Pritchett) Aaron. Among Henry’s seven siblings was a brother, Tommie, who later played in parts of seven different seasons in the major leagues.

    In 1957, he was the Most Valuable Player (MVP) when the Milwaukee Braves won the World Series. He won the Player of the Month award in May 1958 and June 1967. Aaron holds the MLB records for the most career runs batted in (RBI) (2,297), extra base hits (1,477), and total bases (6,856). He ascended the ranks of the Negro Leagues to become a Major League Baseball icon. He has a career total of 755 home runs. He broke Babe Ruth's record in 1974

    Aaron set twelve other major league records by his retirement from the playing field in 1976 and won three Gold Glove Awards. He became one of the first blacks in Major League Baseball upper-level management when Braves owner Ted Turner appointed him vice president of player development. On August 1, 1982, Hank Aaron was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame receiving 97.8 percent of the ballots cast. Aaron is a longtime supporter of civil rights organizations such as the NAACP.
