    Truman authorised the development of a thermonuclear or hydrogren bomb to increase their level of atomic weapons so as not to lose to Soviets. In a way, this was an indirect way of arms race

    Dean Acheson implied that Korea was not under US's defensive perimeter strategy. But US still intervened because they refused to believe it was Kim II Sung's decision. Instead, they felt that North Korea received instructions from Moscow. To which it caused the US to see the entire conflict through the Cold War lens. Which led them to take actions to prevent Korea from becoming communist
