    How It All Started
    Video all started with a 25,000 dollar bet. A guy and his friends argued that a gallping horse had all four feet off the ground at the same time at some point. They decided to dp an experiment to take a sequence of pictures. After doing the experiment they realized that a horse does have all four feet off the ground at some point. When they looked at the pictures that saw that putting them all together, it looked like the horse was actually running. This was the creation of the first video.

    The first movie type thing was called a Kinetoscope. What it did was you would go to pay and stnad behind this machine. You would then out your eye up to the machine and they would crank a lever to move all the pictures. These pictures were called Moving Images. The only bad thing about abot Kinetoscopes was that only one person could watch at a time.

    Thomas Edison was the one to invent Kinetoscopes. He also created the first projector but didn't sell it because he coiuls make more money selling to one person at a time.

    The Lumiere Brothers did what Thomas Edison didn't do. They created their own projector and provided it to tbe people. It showed motin=on pictures on a screen for a audience it was called the Cinematographer. It was cheaper but it only lasted 30 to 60 seconds.

    Vaudvilles are small theaters that feature short, dramatic skits, comedy routines, and Song & Dance numbers. Vaudvilles only cost a nickel to get in ans watch them. Over the years they started calling them NICKELODEON!!!!!!!!!

    Nickelodeons were small store-front theaters that featured films with one or two vaudville acts. Since movies at this time didn't have sound, they would have an orcestra and pianist to come in and play background music.

    The first actual film was created by one of Thomas Edison's employees. In 1903 the first narritive film was made. These recent films included an actual story line. They had 14 scenes and lasted for 12 minutes.

    The MPPC is a trust formed by companies trying to create monopolies. MPPC stands for Motion Picture Patents Company. Their plan was to use their patents to control things such as the production of raw film stock and more.

    By 1910, Nickelodeons were filling their theaters up. It was becoming more and more popular each week. More than 26 million people came to see them each week.

    After making 26 million a week, 5 years later the amount was doubled. As the shows got bigger, more people that wanted to make big profits were sttracted to them. People were wanting to comtrol eveything and have monopolies.

    The fisrt 20th Century superstar was Charlie Chaplin. He was a very big comedian and entertainer. When he first started out he was making $150 a week but after a while he was making over 1 million a year.

    There are two main reasons for the film industry to be in California. The first is that in the east the weather was reall bad all the time and they did most of their filming is outside. The second is that California was beautful year round and it was clse to Mexico incase they needed to get away from Thomas Edison and the MCCP.
