Microsoft Gets Started
It's the 70's and everyone relies on typewriters. If you wanted to make a copy of something, you would mimeograph or carbon paper. Two young people are about to change this: Bill Gates and Paul Allen. -
Creating Microsoft
Gates and Allen create the company "Microsoft" in 1975. They have a huge vision for their company, but like any other new company, have to start small. They dream to have one of their computers on every desk in every house. Little did they know big their company would grow. -
Creating Programs and Systems MS-DOS (microsft disk operating system)
in June of 1980, Gates and Allen hire their former harvard classmate Steve Ballmer. He helps run he company. the next month they create a program called "Chess". Microsoft then focuses on making a software that would mangage/run the hardware on the computer and would also close the gap between the hardware and the computer programs, such as a word processor. They name this software MS-DOS. The next year the IBM PC running this software is shipped out. This program is effective,but hard to learn. -
Microsoft Introduced
In 1983, the first microsoft computer is introduced. some people call it "vaporware" because it takes a while to develop. -
Windows 1.0
Nov. 20, 1985 Microsoft ships their windows 1.0 model. Instead of typing MO-DOS commands, you just move your mouse to to point and click your way though screens or "windows". There are scrollbars, drop-down menues, icons, and dialog boxes that make the software easier to use and understand. This ships with games and things such as notepad, a clock, a calendar, and more. -
Windows 2.0
in dec of 1987, microsoft introduced their 3rd software called "Microsoft windows 2.0". It had desktop items and expanded memory. you could now overlap windows and control screenlayout and use keyboard shortcuts. -
Becomes....
in 1988, microst became the biggest and worlds largest PC software creators based on sales. Thanks to Microsft computers are now becoming a big part of life in office and home life. -
Window's 3.0
May 22, 1990, Microsoft introduces windows 3.0 followed by windows 3.1 in 1992. They sell 10 Million copies in their first 2 years. That made it the most widley used windows operation system yet. In 1990 Windows starts to look like the versions to come. -
Windows NT
Windows NT Released on July 27, 1993, it marked an important milestone because the creation of this began in 1980. "Windows NT represents nothing less than a fundamental change in the way that companies can address their business computing requirements," Bill Gates says at its release. -
internet explorer
in 1995 the first version of internet explorer was released. this was just among those already peering around for space on the World Wide Web. -
Microsoft 95'
This software sold with a record setting number: 7 million in the first five weeks. this had built in internet support, and dial up networking. it had easy to install hardward and software. this was the same year they released the internet explorer. -
Windows 98'
The first version of windows is designed specially for users. this has support for playing DVD's and ports for USB drives. It also has the quick launch bar. -
Windows XP
in Fall of 2001, microsoft came out with windows XP. It's available in 25 languages. its both stable and fast and theres more empahsis on help and support. -
Windows Vista
in 2006, Windows Vista was released to the public. It had the strongest security system yet. It was available in 35 languages and its new and redesigned start button made its debut. -
Laptops
Laptops are now out selling PC's. So Microsoft comes out with windows 7. The also start making laptops to keep up with the demand. by 2010, Windows 7 is selling 7 copies/min. That statistic makes it the fastest selling operating system in history. -
Whats Next?
Windows 8 is under constuction. It is expected to be released in June of 2012
