Graffiti has always been around since the beginning of man kind. It's normal for people to put their mark on anything as a way of expressing them selfs. It all started in New York but now it's known worldwide -
Tagging
Tagging was the first form of graffiti, it all started in New York in the late 1960s. Tagging is when people write their names on walls. -
Taki 183
Taki 183 was the first ever to become famous for graffiti. In 1971 made taki 183 it in the newspaper New York Times. -
New styles
People needed another way of expressing them selfs, in another way than tagging. People started to use spray cans and started spraying their names in big simple bubble letters only using two colors, the big bubble letters is called throw ups. -
The buff
In 1972 declared the mayor of New York war against graffiti. The authorities called it "the buff". From 1980 to 1985 is known as a really though time for the writers because it became harder to find spots where they could draw on because there came laws against graffiti -
Competitions between crews
The subway system made a of the hook line of communications between writers troughout the whole city of New York. The crews competed in who could put their marks at the most places in the city in the fastest time possible -
Quality over quantity
Writers made it common to put their mark around the city. The writers needed new ways to stand out and that's when graffiti took a turn to quality over quantity, the writers who makes artistic graffiti is called burners
