The History of Computer Programming

By Nogo3
  • "Plankakul" First Made

Designed by Konrad Zuse, it was first made as a program made for Enginneering purposes.
  • "MATH-MATIC" Invented

MATH-MATIC is the marketing name for the AT-3 compiler. Early programming language for UNIVAC I and UNIVAC II. Intended as an improvement over FORTRAN. Created by a group led by Charles Katz.
  • "Fortran" Produced

    "Fortran" Produced
Created by John Backus, it was a general purpose langauge made for scientific and general computing.
  • "Lisp" Introduced

Made by John McCarthy, it is actually a family of programming langauges geared towards a practical mathmatical notation for computer programs.
  • "COBOL" Langauge Introduced

(COmmon Business-Oriented Language) First introduced by the Developed Grace "Grass" Hopper, it was first introduced to deal with Financial and Business related programs.
  • "RPG" Produced

"Report Program Generator" Developed by IBM, RPG was made for business applications.
  • "BASIC" First developed

(Beginner's All-purpose Symbolic Instruction Code) Basic was first introduced by developers John G. Kemeny and Thomas E. Kurtz, to make a langauge primarily geared towards ease of use and high-level language.
  • "LOGO" First made

    "LOGO" First made
This is literally the coolest language so far that I've seen. Made by Daniel G. Bobrow, Wally Feurzeig, and Seamour Papert. Today the language is remembered mainly for its use of "turtle graphics" Turtles being little, moving robots. Seriously, who does'nt like robots? They can even dance! That's awesome!
  • "B" First Developed

Primarily the work of Ken Thompson, the B computer langauge was developed for the purpose of reducing the BCPL language to make it fit on the minicomputers of the time
  • "PASCAL" Published

Made by Niklaus Worth, the PASCAL langauge was designed for object oriented programming.
  • "C" First Developed

    "C" First Developed
First made by Dennis Ritchie, of AT&T Bell, it superceded the "B" Programming Langauge and had a primary purpose of being a general purpose programming language.
  • "ML" Produced

A general purpose language designed by Robert Milner,
  • "SQL" Developed

(Structured Query Language) Designed by ISO/IEC as for data management systems.
  • ADA First Developed

    ADA First Developed
Made by Jean Ichbiah of CII Honeywell Bull, It's purpose was to supersede the hundreds of programming languages then used by the DoD. Named after the first promgrammer, Ada Lovelace.
  • "C++" First Developed

    "C++" First Developed
First Developed by the balding Bjarne Straus, (Picture above) The C++ langauge superceded the "C" Langauge and was developed as a experiment to prove his thesis of his PhD. It used the Stimula language and adapted it to a much speed up fashion. Also, it makes pretty good video games. They're Sick! Like, Really really good games.
  • "Python" First Made

    "Python" First Made
Python is a widely used general-purpose, high-level programming language first developed by "Python Software."
  • "Visual BASIC" Introduced

Made by Microsoft, Visual basic was made to give me as much trouble as possible when I try to download it for my Computer Progamming class, as a Practical joke from Bill Gates himself to stop my future prowess as a computer mogul. But that won't keep me down!
  • "Delphi" Introduced

First Developed by Borland, this computer programming langauge was designed to create applications for managed code platforms.
  • "Java" Introduced

    "Java" Introduced
Made by James Gosling, this langauge was made so it was that specifically designed to have as few implementation dependencies as possible. It is a general-purpose langauge.
  • "Javascript" Produced

Made by Brendan Eich, Javascript was made to be a interpreted computer programming language.
  • "PHP" Produced

    "PHP" Produced
Designed for web development, this langauge was made by Rasmus Lerdorf.
