Raphael painted a bunch of Madonna throughout his life as an artist. This particular piece is interesting because through X-ray technology, it was discovered that Joseph was not included in the original work. Also, some interpret this piece as Joseph being a psychic-type figure, and he looks somber because he knows Jesus' future.

-
A very detailed image that includes interesting symbols and metaphors.
-
This is a comical work of art and kind of crazy for the time period that it was made in.
-
Interesting because it focused on the lives of everyday people, compared to many works of art that only focused on royalty.
-
This sculpture is interesting for many reasons. Firstly, Mary's lower half of her body is very disproportionate so that Jesus's body rests in it. Also, Mary appears to be very young, despite the fact that she would be in her late 40s at this time. Lastly, Jesus looks very serene and there is not a lot of evidence of the crucifixion in this piece.

This piece differs from others of this time because it portrays the woman as sexual rather than simply a mother. The story in this piece is that baby Cupid (Venus's son) pricks his mother with his bow and she falls in love with Adonis.

In the 1659 self-portrait Rembrandt he portrays himself as a serious thinker.
-
In this version of himself Rembrandt depicts himself as almost worried and a little more aged.
-
In this iteration Rembrandt portrays himself as a little more relaxed and uses a little more light to help this come across. He also holds his palette to show his devotion to his career possibly and to paint him in an astute light.

This was created by multiple architects because of the long span that it was built over.

The sky becomes the subject of the painting, which is a significant shift in styles of painting. We feel the power of nature being so much more than our individual lives.

A "exhibition of rejects". This show was comprised of works the were rejected from Paris Salon, so there were many works differing from the norm of the time. It included a lot of impressionism.

This piece Idealized the artist lifestyle by portraying a lavish lifestyle inside his studio. This Intrigued me because the modern day artist is portrayed as someone starving for money and trying to break through. Maybe that is what he was trying to say was that he has broken through.

-
a very famous photo during the Great Depression, it shows raw suffering.
-
This is an odd nazi documentary. It has a very long and dream like intro, (which is weird for a documentary) where it shows a bunch of Classical Greek statues. This slowly transforms into the statues preforming the track and field activities where it then leads to the Olympics. The artist claims she had no knowledge of the Holocaust, she was just hired to film a move
