    Taring and feathering is when the Patriots would take suspected loyalists and pour hot tar on them, then cover them in feathers. They did this becaus they had their mind set on the wrong fact that if you weren't with them then you were against them. The tar was used to inflict pain, and they covered them in feathers because that simbolized that they were chickens for not standing up to Brittan.

    • not January 1st is not the real date* In 1776 the Thirteen Colonies brok away from British rule, declaring themselves an independent country, The United States. They then began a war- the American War of Independence, also called the American revloution. The war lasted for 7 years, from 1776 to 1783.

    During the war the United States was divided into two groups, the United Empire Loyalists and the Patriots. The United Emaipre Loyalista were the people that were against the repellion, the people that wanted to stay under Brittans rule; the Patriots were the ones who supported the rebellion.

    During the war many Loyalists (the ones who were loyal to Brittan) (and others) fled to Québec and Nova Scotia. They were mostly the people that had a British background, there were also 3000 black loyalists, 2000 Haudenosaunee people and 3000 German Mennonites.

    The Napoleonic War was a war fough between France and countries with a monarchy, such as Brittan. Theese counties fought in fear, fear that what happened in France would happen to them. In 1789 (this is why 1789 is the date) France had a revolution. They had violently dethroned the monarchy, ana all of the countries, such as Brittan, were afraid that this revolution would make their people feel that they wanted to overthrow their monarchy.

    The Napoleonic War was a war fought betwwen the French and countries with a monarchy. they wee scared that the people that liven in their countries would want to overthrow them too. So out of fear they fought Napoleon, the man who led the french army. Because the war was fought against Napoleon they named the war after him.

    The war cause many dificulties for the Americans, such as that now that the French were at war they couldn't dock their ships at the French ports. Their ships were also being borded by th British Navy who were looking for British deserters. Because of this they went to war with the closest British thing, which was British North America, today called Canada.

    When the loyalists cam them brought with them their concerns. They had complaints for Brittan about how they were running the country. Brittan responded to their concerns by passing the Constutional Act of 1791. This act brought in British laws and instutions for Loyalist settlers west of Montréal.

    The act:
    - Divided Canada into Lower Canada and Upper Canada
    - Established the Bristish civil and criminal law in Upper Canada and in Lower Canada it kept the things that the Québec Act of 1774: British criminal law and French civil law
    - Set aside land for prodestant churches and guarenteed the Canadiens (french Canadians) rights to the Catholic Church

    The Act:
    - Established officals and a legstaltive council, appointed by Brittan in each colony, and an assembly ellected by the colonists, giving Upper and Lower Canada an representaive government
  • The War of 1812

    The War of 1812
    The War of 1812 was a war fought between the Americans and British North American (BNA), today known as Canada, but is was really just a part of the war that the British were fighting back in Europe, the Napoleonic war.
    The Americans charged into BNA and they expected the colonists their to fight with them against their British rulers. Instead they fought. The Catholic Church was the reason why the Canadiens didn't fight back; the Catholic Church oposed the republican government all togther.

    The Catholic Church urged Canadiens to fighth for the British. Togther the Canadiens and the British fought off and American attack on Montréal. If the Americans had got Montréal they would have won the war. The Americans attack was mostly centered towards Upper Camada, most of the people that lived in Upper Canada were people such as loyalists, who stronly oposed the Americans, and a large amount of support for the British.

    The place where the British attacked was only about 50 kilometers (31.0686 miles) away from Washington, where they marched to with the Americans putting up little to no fight. They then set on fire several public bulidings such as the Capitol bulding and the Presidential Mansion, what we now call the White house. They did this because the Americans burnt York, which we now call Toronto.

    On the 25th of August, 1814, the British soldiers, the Canadian militia and Mohawk soldiers all fought togther to bring the White House down. In the days leading up to the burning of this landmark the British general, General Ross, had his troops attack the American army at Bladensburg, Maryland. They easily beat the less experienced Yankees, eventhough they were outnumbered 1 British soldier to 2 American soldiers.
