  • Prohibition Begins

    Prohibition Begins
    The US Senate proposed the 18th Amendment on December 18, 1917 to ban consumption and possession of alcohol. It took two years, but eventually 36 states approved the Amendment on January 16, 1919, becoming part of the constitution. The country officially went dry one year later, January 17, 1920.
