Montesquieu: What if government comes and takes our rights? There should be a separation of powers. The three branches, executive, legislative, judicial. Without Montesquieu the French Revolution wouldn't have happened because his idea of a repulic government is one of the reasons that strived them to rebel.

Voltaire: Government needs to be separate from the church. And people should have religious freedom. So the state and the government should be separate and not involved with each other. This was with the French revolution because they kept their republic government away from church rule.

Rousseau: We sign a contract between us and the government (social contract). Just like Locke, the government should protect us, and if they don’t we can back out of the government and make their own government.
