American Education History

  • First American Public School

    First American Public School
Dating back to 1635 in Boston Massachusetts, the first all boys American public school was the first progressive movement in American education history.
  • Bill of Rights

    Bill of Rights
When the bill of rights was passed in the years 1791, there was zero mention of anything education related. The only positive thing about this event was that this would mean it was a state's right and would function under the state rather than federally.
  • Native American Boarding Schools

    Native American Boarding Schools
Native American boarding schools first appeared in the 1870's where people of an aboriginal descent were forced off their land and into an "all white" classroom to learn the American ways. Whether this is a positive or negative swing in American education, it stands as a historical standout.
  • "Birds and Bees" Act

    "Birds and Bees" Act
Until 1920 when the "Birds and Bees" Act was put into place, there was no sex-education being taught in the school systems. The only education related to sex was taught as "abstinence only," and did not allow people to learn who they were and limited their knowledge related to sex. As a firm believer in sex/health education, this was a positive movement in the school systems to incorporate this into their lesson plans.
  • Title IV Amendment

    Title IV Amendment
The Title IV amendment of 1972 serves a positive step in American Education where equal opportunity was granted regardless of your sex. This amendment saw a positive swing allowing both males and females an equal opportunity to succeed educationally.
