    -interesting story: Long before he set sail from Portsmouth in May 1787 in command of 11 ships filled with about 1, 400 souls bound for botany bay and posterity, Arthur Phillip had led an adventurous life.

    Interesting story:
    John Hunter, the youngest of 10 children of John Agnes Hunter recieved his early education at the Grammar school in East Kilbride. After the death ofg his father, a farmer, in 1741.

    -Launched the colonies first newspaper
    -interesting story:
    He helped develop livestock farming, whaling and mining, built many schools. But conflicts with the military worn down his spirit, and they were able to force him to his resignation.

    Achievements:
    -Buildings have been named after him (Maquarie University, Maquarie Centre, etc)
    -Theres a suburb called Macquarrie
    -He was the fifth governor of NSW
    Interesting story:
    Macquarrie joined the British army and as a boy and served in North America, Europe, and the West Indies between 1776 and 1788 and in India during 1788-1803 and 1805-1807.
