    During 1963, General Abdul Karim Qassim was the leader of Iraq. The US teamed up with the people of Iraq to remove him from leadership. This was necessary because Qassim was employing communist government officials, and the people of Iraq did not agree with those actions.
  • The US backs Iraq in the invasion of Iran

    The US backs Iraq in the invasion of Iran
    September 22 marks the start of the Iran-Iraq war. Iraq invaded Iran by land as well as by air. It has been understood that the US gave verbal support to Iraq during this time.
  • US Gives Intelligence

    Along with verbal support, the US helped Iraq through this war in a couple other ways as well. One of these ways were through providing Intelligence Aid. The US helped Iraq plan out attacks and provided them with satellite footage. This knowledge was given through the United States Central Intelligence Agency.
  • Start of Persian Gulf War

    By this time, the Iraq-Iran War was over. The Persian Gulf War began when Iraq raided Kuwait. The US did not support Iraq in this decision, and armed forces from the US and Saudi Arabia were sent to Kuwait in an attempt to rid Kuwait of the Iraqui troops.
  • Resolution 687

    Resolution 687 was a ceasefire agreement. This agreement demanded the removal or destruction of all chemical/biological weapons, production facilities in Iraq, and called for a stop to international terrorism. Also from this agreement came a comission called UNSCOM, who were in charge of inspecting Iraq.
  • USA Embargo

    President Bill Clinton emposed a total embargo on any deals with Iran. This was to try and limit supplies that got into Iran. If Iran was short on supplies, it would make it more diffucult for them to fight in wars, and it blocked some investment for Iran.
  • Operation Desert Fox

    Operation Desert Fox was the code name for the December 1998 Bombing of Iraq. The goal for this mission was to target any areas in Iraq that were capable of producing, storing, etc. any weapons of mass destruction. This mission was launched by the US and the United Kingdoms.
  • September 11th Attacks

    After the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center, many Iranians came together in Tehran. They held candlelit ceremonies to honor the victims of the attacks. Many of these ceremonies were violently broken up by government officials in Iran.
  • Bush's Speech

    In January after the 9/11 attacks, George W. Bush gave a speech. This was the "Axis of Evil" speech, and it stated that Iran, Iraq, and North Korea were an "Axis of Evil'. In his speech, Bush said that these three countries were using long-range missles and that they were a danger to the United States. His speech outraged Iran greatly.
  • Fighting al Qaeda

    Iraq and the US agreed that Iraqui forces are going to need more resources and equipment in order to fight al Qaeda groups. Iraq has requested to purchase this needed equipment from the US, as a way to build a stronger relationship between our countries. Iraq has committed to following the rules and regulations set by the US while using these materials.
