    Sept 18th 1850 Fugitive Slave Act 1850 This law said that escaped slaves had to be returned to their owners even if they had reached Northern States where slavery was not allowed. Congress passed Clay's plan , it was called the Compromise of 1850.
  • Dred Scott Decision

    Dred Scott Decision
    Dred Scott went to court claiming that he was a free man because he had lived in a free state. The 1857 decision stated that slaves had no rights because African Americans were not citizens of the united states, which outrages many Americans.
  • Fort Sumter

    The attack and surrender of Fort Sumter made Lincoln call for 75,000 soldiers to put down the Confederate Rebellion. This angered the states of Virginia, Arkansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina, causing them to succeed and join the confederacy.
