    Martin Cooper was the first person to develop a handheld phone. When he completed it, the first thing he did was stand outside in Manhattan and call his biggest competitor. Cooper was an engineer at Motorola while his competitor, Joel Engel, was head of Bell Labs, owned by AT&T.

    The iPhone is Announced
    Steve Jobs, owner of Apple, starts by saying that there are three new things he is releasing: a wide screen iPod, a phone, and an internet communicator. Everyone in the crowd cheers and is excited, but that only escalates when he reveals that all of this is incorporated into one device, the iPhone. He states that he has been waiting to share this news for two and a half years, as he believes this phone is five years ahead any other.
