The Count of Monte Cristo

  • Danglars, Fernand, and Caderousse plan against Dantes.

    Danglars wants to be captain of the Pharaon instead of Dantes, Fernand wants to marry Mercedes instead of Dantes, and Caderousse is drunk, so they plan to write an anonynous letter to make it seem as though Dantes is a Bonapartist.
  • Dantes speaks to the public prosecuter, Villefort.

    The public prosecuter questions Dantes and acts as though he will let him go, but Dantes has a letter that would ruin Villefort's career, so Villefort burns the letter and sends Dantes to prision.
  • Dantes is imprisioned.

    Dantes is sent to Chateu de' If, a prision for political prisioners.
  • Dantes escapes prision.

    After the prisioner inn the adjacent cell, a priest named Faria, dies, Dantes takes his place as a dead body and is thrown into the ocean.
  • Dantes finds the trasure at the island of Monte Cristo.

    After joining a group of smugglers, he goes to the Island of Monte Cristo, takes the buried treasure there, and takes on the identity of the Count of Monte Cristo.
  • Caderousse kills his wife and the appraiser.

    One of the Counts servants tell about how he saw Caderrousse kill an appraiser and his wife so he could keep the diamond and the money the appraiser was going to pay him for it.
  • Bendetto kills Caderousse.

    Caderousse breaks into the Count's houseand the Count catches him, but the Count is dressed as a priest and makes him sign a letter. As he is leaving, his accomplice Bendetto stabs him three times and leaves him to die.
  • Villefort's wife and son are killed.

    The Count causes Villefort's wife and son to die, which makes Villefort go mad and start digging graves to look for them,
  • Danglars nearly starves to death.

    The Count disguises himself as a bandit and kidnaps Danglars. He makes Danglars pay large amounts of money for food and wine and causes Danglars to suffer before revealing his identity and letting Danglars go.
  • He leaves gifts fo Maximilian and Valantine gifts.

    The Count leaves to live with his former slave and leaves Maximilian, the son of his former employer, and his wife Valantine a house as a wedding gift.
