    On August 15th, 1945 Japan surrendered to the United States, concluding World War II. This led to the Soviet Union emerging as the second super power, with the US being in the lead. As the War ended both countries worked on building their economies, and staying in the respective super power positions. This economic boom is a match to the fuse of the Cold War powder keg.

    Televeision becomes widespread and popular within American homes. Broadcasting news became available across the country, which becomes very important leading up to the main Cold War events.
