    Uncle Toms Cabin
    In 1852 Harriet Beecher Stowe published the novel of Uncle Toms Cabin, which was able to show white men and women and that slaves were people too and eventually realize that slavery was wrong. It helped lead to the Civil War.
  • The Dred Scott Case

    Dred Scott, an enslaved African American was in the process of sueing for his freedom. He had been taken to Illinous, a free state, and there for should have been free. Judge Tanny decided he had no righ to sue because he was black.

    In 1861 the first States seceded from the Union and created the Confederate States of America. This was do to the fear that Abraham Lincoln might threaten their way of life and abolish slavery, even though he did announce that he would allow slavery to contunioue
  • Fort Sumpter

    Fort Sumpter
    In 1861 the first shots were fired when Lincoln had sent supplies down to Fort Sumpter because they were running out. The confederacy believed that he was sending soldiers so they attacked them, starting the civil war.

    habeas Corpus
    In 1861 Lincoln suspends the writ of Habeas Corpus which would allow the government to arrest anyone for any charge and hold them indefinently. This was a huge act because it also ment that those people would not have a court hearing.
